Someone please tell me to stop worrying about my nephew maybe having leukemia.
This is strictly an internet diagnosis. He is anemic, has a low-grade fever that he's had for weeks, has been fighting an infection for weeks, and is tired all the time. His doc called to say they want blood work before his next appt for the infection, which is the 16th.

I worry like a big fat worry wart mo-fo IDIOT, I worry so much and so hard that it hurts.

Please tell me to stop worrying about this.

1. Bertha...
It could be a lot of things.

The best thing to do now is not to worry and to take one day at a time.

He is in good hands.

2. Sorry, no can do
I'm worrying about my new employer's little boy possibly facing a serious health challenge of his own. I have got to get out of this nasty habit of caring about my bosses as human beings... :(

3. The same thing happened to my son, Bertha
Last spring he had a fever for three weeks, and the doctor ordered rush results on bloodwork. It was the longest four hours of my life, waiting for that after-hours phone call. Turned out he did not have leukemia; it was a virus, then strep, then another virus in quick succession. He spent most of kindergarten deathly ill with one thing or another--he had strep twice within two months, along with all kinds of other illnesses. We found out over the summer that he (like me and my mom) is severely deficient in vitamin D. He's been on large amounts of supplements (back off, naysayers--the amount is reasonable for his age and weight, as ordered by a doctor), and he has been fine ever since. He's only had the sniffles once since then, and he slept them off within 48 hours. That's major, as judging by his history in preschool and k-garten, this far into the school year he should have had at least two major illnesses, with large amounts of hurling and a fever.

Anyway, holding good thoughts for your nephew. Keep us posted.

9. It was a DIY, Lib
I have an ongoing problem with ovarian cysts, so my midwife, who recently has been learning about D, had me tested, because D supplements can alleviate the cysts. A friend informed me that D deficiency can be hereditary, so my mom asked her doctor to check her D level, and I made the request of my son's pediatrician. Lo and behold, all of our D levels were ridiculously low. I had to argue with the pediatrician even to get the blood test, though. Hrumph. x(

10. I know how self diagnosis is... I had to push and push to get a diagnosis years ago.
Some aspects of our modern health care system suck.

5. My Grand daughter was diagnosed with leukemia
2 1/2 years ago at the age of 3. She is now in remission and a healthy happy 5 year old. Leukemia is not the worst thing that one can have.
It was frightening at first but we all made it
She ended her chemo a month ago. Now they just got notice their health insurance has been canceled. With that as a pre existing condition I wonder what they can do?

7. Jesus christ, Frosty, I am so sorry to hear that. WHY
do insurance companies do that to us? "Oh, sorry, your little girl's illness meant our CEO and his minions had to pay for their own lunch last month." :grr:

:banghead:

I'm sorry the girl was ill but SO glad she's well now!

8. It could easily be an ongoing infection - as the symptoms are pretty generic
and these things sometimes are never diagnosed or even agressively analyzed until it lasts over a month.

14. All things come to pass
at some point or another. Here is to hope that your nephew merely had some sort of infection that will pass and not anything more serious.
