21. True...
but that's the advantage of dying young: you die before most people find out you were overrated.

22. Seriously
Morrison was a whack job who wrote shitty poetry. End of story. The Doors were excellent musically but Morrison would have been worthless without them.

With New Order/Joy Division, Ian dying was the best thing to ever happen. New Order was/is ten thousand times better than any of that 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' crap. Have you ever listened to the complete version of A Perfect Kiss? Blows anything Curtis-era to bits and pieces.

25. But Morrison was a helluva singer, IMHO
The lyrics were often as pretentious as anything else from the era, but I'd say Morrison was a great singer in terms of a powerful, distinctive voice, the energy and emotion he was often able to infuse into songs, he understood dynamics. "Break on Through" for some reason always echoes in my mind when I think about him. Some of the radio-friendly stuff doesn't stand up as well "Hello, I Love You" for instance, but lots of good stuff. Of course, his death may have prevented an embarrassing slide into "MacArthur Park" territory or worse.

Ian Curtis and Joy Division have had their lasting influences, of course, but Curtis was very limited as a singer, imho. But maybe that was kind of the point. I dunno.

I just know that if I had to spend a month listening to only The Doors catalog, or the Joy Division catalog, Morrison & Co gets my vote.

24. But Harry Nilsson, Jerry Garcia, and Tommy Boyce all made it to their 50s...
Isn't dying REALLY young (under 40) a pre-requisite?

27. Lessee....
Nilsson died of a heart attack, Boyce committed suicide, and Garcia- um, well... he has an ice cream flavor all his own, so there.

16. Where the hell is Harry Chapin?
Morrison was a boozed-up, doped-up poser.

Harry Chapin was a storyteller.
