I wish our pets outlived us.
My female dog is very sick. She has not eaten anything since Sunday, she has probable nasal cancer, and she has what was a small tumor on her eyelid that has tripled in size in about a week.

I'm taking her to the vet in a few hours.

When they get older, it is like a horrible waiting game.

Please don't respond to this post, just wanted to type this out...I won't have it in me to respond.

I've been up all night with her.

1. No response needed, just a few words:
"We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way." - Irving Townsend

2. She loves you
and trusts you to help take care of her. And you've got that in to do that because you love her.

Will light a white candle for your girl and you.

3. I'm sorry
We can care for them when they are sick, but they can't care for us.

7. Update
Thank you to those who responded.

They kept her in the hospital.

Physical exam including rectal smear showed nothing.

Without going into the details, vet "does not have a good feeling".

She's getting blood work and possibly x-rays.

If you could keep Lily in your thoughts, I sure would appreciate it.

10. Update 2
She is anemic, and her BUN (kidney) is elevated.

However, her urine is good and her other kidney function tests are good.

Vet said that when a dog is anemic, and just the BUN is elevated, this most likely indicates a gastric bleed...the BUN only gets elevated from the digested blood.

Most likely causes are either a gastric ulcer or cancer.

They will do an x-ray this afternoon, and an ultrasound if one of the vets can do it today.

14. She has something abnormal next to one of the lobes of her liver.
Vet is not a radiologist though, so he sent ultrasound out to be read.

Hopefully will have results today.

She is home because she will be more comfortable here.

She is very dull eyed.

Probably going to have a decision to make soon...she ate a little this morning, but it looks to me like she is failing quick.

Thanks to all who responded.
