Anyone ever create a social networking site?

I THINK I've looked into every conceivable avenue in this regard, except for things that are too darn expensive to consider.

I've been using Ning but they are doing things that aren't cool now; plus, I need to be able to incorporate a classified ad feature, and very few platforms currently offer that.

While I prefer a web-based option, like Ning, because I am not a programmer, the platform I've narrowed my search down to is Social Engine.

Does anyone have experience using Social Engine or any of the other "white label" social networking platforms?
