Speed Humps suck!
Edited on Wed Jul-08-09 11:17 AM by NJmaverick
anyone have to deal with these yet? I am not talking about speed bumps you encounter in parking lots, but speed humps. Those over sized speed bumps they put on through roads and the like to destroy suspencions and make life miserable. I main road I travel has a dozen of them in the span of less than half a mile:mad:

1. True. I prefer slow humps.
But that's just me. It's a matter of personal taste, I suppose.

6. None of those in my area because they slow emergency response time
You should move to a place with smarter traffic engineers.

8. I encountered another group of them driving an ambulance to the local VA hospital
some rocket scientist decided to put a dozen of them on the road that ran between the highway and the VA. Try getting to get over them in emergency conditions was quite the adventure.

9. it's to keep people from cutting through neighborhoods
They want traffic to stick to the main roads instead of folks speeding through side streets at 40 miles an hour.

Also, I think it helps deter people from "cruising" neighborhoods looking for trouble or crimes of opportunity... it does a pretty good job of limiting traffic to people who have a need to be in that particular area.

My street could use a couple... people speed up and down my street rather than taking the next one over because my street doesn't have stop signs.

They're a pain in the ass sometimes, but serve a purpose... better than red light cameras.

12. I live on a through street too
People haul ass down my street - especially delivery vans because my street is the path of least resistance between two larger streets... only one stop versus 4 or 5. I don't particularly like the road humps, and they should not be used willy nilly, but they can be useful. The example upthread about the road to the hospital is a great example. Ambulances and the like shouldn't have to deal with that.

11. I drive slow enough, but legally they should allow one to go 25 mph
worse is the people in front that brake at everyone. The part that pisses me off even more is they had money for that, but not to fix the alignment destroying pot holes at the end of the road
