3. Ah...you did what I should have done, and that's post his earlier hits
:banghead: but good on you for doing so...yes, I think it's important that people remember him for his works with Motown favorites

6. I am old enough that I remember the very young Michael Jackson
He's a year younger than my little sister and she really grew up with his hits from the very beginning. So I got to watch and hear many of those early Jackson 5 songs when they were first broadcast.

8. Thank you.
He was a huge part of my childhood as well. I feel as if a part of me has died today.

10. yeah...
the only thing i can think of is this must have been how an earlier generation reacted to Elvis' death...

I realize DU has been full of extreme adoration and condemnation tonight, but still I was kind of hoping to see a proper remembrance thread...maybe i'll start one tomorrow...

12. I grew up with Thriller.
I was 12 in 1982. When I think back to that time, there was no other music other than Michael Jackson. I tried to explain to my 9 year old daughter his impact this evening, but I could not think of anyone of her generation that is comparable. It was not really extreme adoration as his music heralding the beginning of something new and different. I think the comparison to Elvis is apt.
