I think photographers are overusing HDR.
It's fun and different for a few photos, but I'm starting to see people use it in every single picture they take. It totally kills the realism of a photo and if you're going to continue doing it for even the most simplest photos, I think it loses its effect.

Am I the only one who thinks this? Or am I just a photo snob?

2. Hey, 18% grey is beautiful!

If you can see that it is used, it is used too much, imo.

6. Sorry, I guess I could have been more specific.
Someone posted a few HDR images above.

However, HDR, or High Dynamic Range Imaging, is where you use a program and multiple exposures to bring out different tones in a photograph.

Essentially, they make them more colorful and while many images look unbelievable, it's not very realistic and can be completely overdone.

This is what I'd consider overkill:

Whereas something like this could add some sharpness and color to a photo:

Unfortunately, too many people do the former and it makes their pictures cartoonish.

7. Thanks for explaining.
I saw that acronym several times today and was beginning to

wonder if it was related to a former President.

8. I've seen too many landscape photos lately that use it,
and I think it gives an over-stylized look and I become aware of the stylization rather than the natural beauty of the landscape which was the original subject. Hopefully it's just a gimmick that will be a passing fad and then in the long run be used only when appropriate.

9. I agree. Those are a few nice ones upthread, but lots of people overdo them. Mine, on the rare
occasions that I make them, are more moderate:
