People without pets- Check in here.....
I don't have anything against animals. The truth of the matter is that I love animals- so much, in fact, that I recognize how my schedule would not really allow for me to be a responsible pet owner, so I choose to not have one.

Anybody else? Or am I the only one?

:hi:

1. My dear SacredCow!
You are not the only one!

We've had pets in the past, but no more. Our friends and family have them, and we enjoy them!

:hi:

2. +1
That, and my place is messy enough without pet hair, dander, and I don't abide things being chewed up that aren't supposed to be.

3. Same
I have no time for a pet. Otherwise I would have a cat already. The one in my sigline isn't living with me.

but you can't work 24 hour volunteer shifts (on top of regular work) and be a responsible pet owner

7. I don't have pets. I love dogs, but my wife doesn't
She likes cats, and I don't So we have neither...

And a goldfish isn't a pet, IMO. If it can't go for a run with you, and it doesn't have a coat you can stroke, it's not a pet...

I could probably handle the maintenance needs of fish.

26. Well, if you ever have set-up questions, PM me
I'm a fish tank junkie, even though I don't have any right now. The betta doesn't count, because it's only a 2 gallon tank.

She likes animals, but not as pets.
So, instead, she stalks the bunnies that live in our neighborhood.

13. I have none right now.
Grew up without any. Spent the first 5 years out of my house in a practically no-pets-allowed apartment. (things in aquariums and terrariums were allowed, that was it.)

Got my first two about a month before I moved out. A couple of cuban tree frogs. After I moved, I got a leopard gecko.

All three have since passed on, and now I'm once again in a living situation where I can't really have pets. :(

14. I'd love to have a cat but my husband is allergic.
I like dogs but have no desire to have one. I grew up around dogs and my parents let them get away with so much... chewing, shitting on the carpet. I couldn't stand that in my own home.

16. I don't have any pets. And I've never felt like I was missing anything I cared about.

My wife has a dog--so now I live with one. :(

I like animals just fine when they are somebody else's, but I am allergic to just about every goddamn thing under the sun--dogs included so I get to tough that out.

And now that I have lived with a dog for close to a year I am gonna be blunt: I am MUCH happier without one.

Before anybody flips out on me Scully still gets all the care she needs, and I will feed, walk, water and pet and even pill her when required. Then I have to wash my hands immediately so I don't accidnetally touch my eyes. When the dog looks at me grinning her dog grin and wagging her tail expectantly I can see where the appeal lies, I will admit that.

But that isn't enough. I am happier, more relaxed and content without pets, it is just as simple as that.

28. Petfinder.com!

You can search for any kind of dog and find rescues. Less pricey than a breeder, and you are saving a life!

Still recovering from the disappearance of one young cat and the sudden death of the other

Husband and I have been together 20 years and have lost 5 cats and a dog.

Kids want us to get a dog but they are teens and I know who will end up taking care of it.

I must confess it's kind of nice not dealing with vomit, scooping, fleas, and wiping up pee from the floor.

I am allergic to dogs, cats, horses, and feathers. Shots helped some, but not enough.

A combination of $, time, living in a rental with rules against it, and allergies are preventing it.
