the phone call threads did make me feel like an outsider- that all these people were so tight that they knew and called each other IRL. Brought back feelings of being in middle-school, and not being in the "in crowd."

Also made me wonder why they couldn't just PM each other.

I'm sure I'm missing something, but that's how it felt.

But there is something about the people who post a lot and are chummy in the Lounge. I've been here since 2001- the cast of characters is always changing, but the feeling remains the same. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with me, but I never feel really part of it.

The only reason I got friendly with people here is that they talked back to me. Then I met some IRL and our friendships were pretty much cemented.

In fact, swimboy is coming over for dinner on Sunday. He rarely posts these days, but he's still my friend.

Just because someone is talkative doesn't mean you can't participate. I'll pretty much talk to anyone. A lot of my chatting with folks goes on via PM because I sometimes get busy and don't see threads.

I spend way too much time on DU, but I think I hang back.

It's like on another site I frequent, for people recovering from a major illness. My friend is on it and she gets all involved with people, pms them, meets some IRL. I just don't do that- could be my personality, or that I have too much going on in the rest of my life.

And Pol Pot didn't answer her phone, and Lostinva posted an OP telling her to call, because she knew I really wanted to ask Midlo something about said psycho mother. Midlo was getting wine or peeing or something.

That's it. THAT is the genesis of all of this. Nothing more. Lostinva even contacted the Mods explaining it, even though, imo, she didn't need to do so.

Midlo is a close friend of mine and LOstinva's IRL, as are MrsG, Cboy, Shakespeare, Debi, etal. And, just like friends everywhere, sometikes we want and need to talk to them.

That is a good thing, because I HATE phones. I mean when cell phones were invented I just went into meltdown, because I could ignore my home phone.

Now I get these pissed off texts or phone calls from my buds that sound like this, "WHY THE FUCK DO YOU HAVE A CELL PHONE? YOU NEVER ANSWER ANYWAY BITCH!"

And my 82 year old mom, soon to be 83, just learned how to text...so I HAVE to answer her and my god, I am getting a text every thirty seconds!

People expect that because you have a cell phone you should be available 24-7.

My mom, who's 83 going on 84, doesn't text, but she gets massively bent out of shape if she can't get ahold of people immediately. She'll call my brother's house, then his cell, then his wife's cell, and when nobody answers the only possible explanation is that they were all victims of an axe murderer.

I actually posted a "phone call" thread. It was a copycat. I think I have never done a copycat. It was just fun.

I think that people are getting silly over this. I mean, if someone has insulted you then just avoid them.

There have been threads, posts. and peeps who have all annoyed me on DU. I am on good terms with just about all of them. It's not worth being upset. I certainly have pissed off many here, but I take nothing personally. It is a message board and I enjoy the interaction.

The DUers I don't like - well, I just ignore their threads (though I have no one on ignore) and I just post where I want. Truth be told, I actually post on their threads too. I just figure they never see me, lol.

But if I like your subject, well, I will post.
