Conan is going to fail in this time slot
Pretty much sums up my thoughts on the move...

From SNL to The Simpsons to his own Late Night, O'Brien was a driving force in some of the most cutting edge network comedy of the last 15 years. But, The Tonight Show isn't about "cutting edge." It's about something mildly entertaining to watch before folks tuck into bed. It's a waste of O'Brien's chops -- though you can't blame the guy for knocking down the paycheck.

{...}

O'Brien is trapped no matter what new approach he takes to his version of The Tonight Show. If he waters down his edgier Late Night and kills off The Masturbating Bear, he'll be accused of selling out. But, if Pimpbot or Gaseous Wiener shows up at 11:30, he'll seem too bizarre for his new gig.

1. I don't know ... The popular culture has come a long way since Johnny ran the show.
I think people can handle cutting-edge stuff at 11:30. It takes a whole hell of a lot more to shock people these days than 20 years ago.

3. Us old folks just need a show we can nod off to.
I don't think it matters too much which one.

4. It grieves me that he's opposite Dave
For sixteen years it was a nice 1-2 punch for those of us with opposable thumbs capable of switching channels.

But the fact that he's still following Leno (:wtf:) and now up against Dave doesn't bode well for his future.

On the plus side, I will probably catch more Craig Ferguson as I really can't stand Fallon.

But at least TDS & Colbert are rerun several times the next day.

7. I am not a fan of Conan.
I couldn't stand Leno.

I've always been a fan of Letterman.

10. I'm with you!
Letterman all the way.

Conan probably can maintain Leno's audience, though. Not much to live up to there.

11. Leno had more than 1.5 million viewers a night then Dave
What makes you say, that there isnt much to live up to there when speaking of Leno's audience. He had over 5 million viewers a night which was well ahead of his competitors at night.

14. I much prefer Letterman. But aren't we reaching a saturation point of snarky male comedians hosting
'talk' shows late at night?

9. I can't believe that NBC is abandoning 1/3 of its M-F primetime programming
Not that I will miss any of it aside from Law and Order.

13. I think its a good idea
They're 10PM programming doesnt do much of anything anyway (neither does any of their programming). They keep the best programming, save money with the same show 5 hours a week, and I think they get enough viewers for it to make sense

19. Well, it certainly takes less effort and fewer resources
than developing original programming.

Maybe their next step will be to move Jay to 9, Conan to 10 and Fallon to 11:30.

Leno's a corporate ass-kisser and Dave is the real deal.

12. They said the exact same things about Letterman when he moved to 11:30
And he seems to have done quite well for himself. Sure, he had to tone down some of the edgier stuff, but he's still held his own against the other shows.

16. NBC will now be providing a multi-hour block of programming where people come on and sell...
their latest projects. There is now no line between content and advertising. It will be commercials interrupted by...commercials.

24. I like Conan and Dave. I'll watch whoever has the better quests for the night and
I'll catch Colbert's replays or record them.

I don't think Conan will fail.
