35. I bought mine a few years ago
Unfortunately, I had to replace the engine last summer. :( My mechanic said he'd rarely seen engine problems in a 240, but like anything, there are exceptions to the rule. Hopefully this one will give me another 200,000 miles.

Because it is neither reliable, nor anywhere near DC.

It does handle running into things remarkably well though. Thats why my sis still has it. I cant even count how many things have hit her and how many she has hit with that beast. I make a point of not parking where she will be parking. If only others could be forewarned.

Its an 'old' Jetta! Its not actually mine but it might have been, as I had the same car, leased, turned it in, and now, years later, am thinking of buying a used one. Something about that color makes me feel SO HAPPY!!!

The color came out some years ago, I loved it when I first saw it, and much to my delight, went to dealer for a lease and there it was, the ONLY available Jetta on the lot! I had NEVER bought or leased a car for color, haven't done so since, but WILL now! Glad you were able to see it!

EDIT: and you're in my 'neighborhood!' :hi:

4. My 68 Galaxie fastback
She's got a rear window the size of Montana. I can lay down in the trunk and the back seat. The back seat is also well suited for other activities.

The only complaint I have is that the 390 breaks motor mounts. I've had them put the cop-issue mounts in her the last few times but she STILL breaks them. Of course, the owner's manual says not to do more than 70mph in 1st gear and I have been known to break that rule.

She was turning left onto my street, and miscalculated how fast the Challenger was going...and he was going too fast. My head hit the windshield and the side window, and her car was totaled. The Challenger took a hefty chunk out of a 50 year old oak tree after it hit us.

Scary moment.

Great little car.

89. '66 Corvette convertible
I dated a guy who found the one that he went to his prom in. His friend had wrecked it years later, and the guy bought it from him and restored it.

We'd drive around the beach in it, and when I got back to work in the city later, people would say "was that you I saw this weekend at the beach, riding around in the convertible?" Yes, yes it was.

My male roommates mocked me, saying I was dating him just for the car, but I wasn't shallow - he was also rich and good-looking (hey, I was 20 - what do you expect?)

They were the first ones outside to oooh and aah over it when he came by to pick me up, though.....

100. My big sister had a '67 Sting Ray 427 ragtop.
Silver with a black ragtop. Gorgeous car.

She would pick me up after school (high school) in it.
The other kids would stare and wonder why that nerdy girl who wore glasses was getting into that FINE automobile.

She took out the block and shaved the heads, with her boyfriends and our Dad. That's how she met boys -- working on cars. It was a 427 with 390 horses and she increased the HP to 410.

Before that she had a '66 silver GTO.

A Silver Stingray - It does elicit the "ooohs" and "aahhs"

My best friend in HS carted us everywhere in her blue '68 Mustang, which wasn't that hot a car when we were in HS ('76 - '78). She knew she had something on her hands, though, in the 80's when strangers kept offering to buy it - tollbooth collectors, gas station and parking attendents, everywhere she went. Made me sad when she sold it.

...this car I saw parked out on Atlantic Ave in Delray....

If I am not mistaken, it is a V-12 exotic sports car made by Audi... with shape similar to a new-ish Lamborghini but with smoother lines.... I'm not 100% sure what it was, but it was pretty nasty....

edit: Tesla roadster with the body style by Lotus is bad ass,too... I would love one of those.. with such a linear power curve because of the electric motor, it must be sick to drive...

139. We had an Iranian knockoff of the Truckette
when we lived in Iran. It had smooth sides with side windows, a smooth hood, and it was bright yellow, but otherwise it looked a lot like the Citroen. It was a tin can with wheels, though--no way would that thing have met U.S. safety requirements.

I have a 1969 Camaro along with my "current" car, and if I ever get the money needed for it I'll be buying an SUV.

With all due respect to Obama, whom I have supported fervently and will continue to support, I will not sacrifice the safety of myself or my loved ones by driving an environmentally-friendly tin can. I'd rather walk than drive a Prius.

My dream car right now: whatever large vehicle has the best safety record.

131. My whole family got a chance for each of us to get our dream cars once
We sort of came into some money and we each went out and bought the car we most wanted. This was in 1977 and I don't remember the exact models of some of the cars but here you go:

My Dad bought a 1977 Buick Century. Every four or five years since, he has replaced his current one with a new Buick Century.
?v=0

Mom Bought a new off the lot 1976 Cadillac Sedan deVille, previous year model that the dealer had not sold so she got a really good deal on it. She still has that same car. It has about 50,000 miles on it now.

My oldest sister bought a 1977 Porsche 924. She kept it until she had her first kid.

My second oldest sister bought a used diesel Mercedes. That lasted until the first servicing/tune up, which cost nearly as much as she paid for the car. She sold it and got something cheaper to maintain.

I bought a new 1977 GMC Suburban 2500. Big Brownie was a work horse and I drove that truck into the ground. The odometer showed nearly 250,000 miles on it when the block on the 454 cracked, but it had broken twice during the life of the truck so I think it actually was around 300,000 miles that truck gave me. It died in 1994 and I still miss that truck, even though I now have a 1999 Suburban that should last me as long.

My little sister went out and bought a 1978 Pontiac Firebird - without the decal. I never understood why she deliberately ordered it that way. The decal was part of the coolness of the Firebird. That was another car that got dumped when she started her family.

I can't remember what years they were, but they were both used when they bought them.

For some reason they had this stupid feud over it, and didn't speak to each other for a couple of years. I guess it was like wearing the same dress to the prom or something. They're both thugs...go figure.
