OMG. I need someone to pick through my hair like a chimp.

I just found a tick in my hair -- the second one in two days!!! :scared:

Why oh why do i do this biology thing again?!? And Iza is not home... so there is no one to make sure they are all gone. ;( Any takers? You don't have to eat the ticks if you find any...

I hate ticks. I cringe every time I have to mow under the pine trees here. :(

Hopefully it was just that one.

5. I checked the pups very carefully

and they got baths, because they were frolicking in stinky swamps all weekend.

Hopefully we are all tick-free now!!!

2. I'd do it!
We have a weird amount of deer ticks in W. MA this year. One got me. No Lyme symptoms, 2 weeks later.

And, I've only ever seen wood ticks. This is new. And Ew.

6. Aww, thanks babe!

These have all been wood ticks -- way easier to see than those deer ticks! Deer ticks are rampant on the Cape though. Ick ick ick. So glad that you didn't have any Lyme symptoms!

Hope you are having a good weekend!

3. I've had two on me this year as well
For some reason they don't get on my dogs that I can see. I pull several off critters each week though.

They are bad this year. :scared:

12. Going great here
I think I'm up to 18 containers loaded with potential produce :P

That's my problem. When I mix my compost, soil, manure, lime, I get right there in it elbow deep and a mixing fool. Bugs have easy access :P

4. Mr. Livetohike had two ticks dug into his skin this week
I'm really good at pulling them out. I have lots of practice from pulling ticks off our dogs all these years. Just the mention of it makes me itchy :-(.

8. You need to find a nit comb
Edited on Sun May-31-09 06:41 PM by Xipe Totec
very fine comb, tight enough to pull nits from your scalp.

I don't know if they see those in the US anymore, but that's what you need.

not to mention VERY thick hair that goes down past my butt. So that could take a while... might make me feel better though!

11. Back home (Mexico)
They were called Chinese combs.

Very tight tines, used specifically for the purpose of removing lice and nits from hair.

Disgusting? Yes.

Effective? Yes.

15. Two ticks removed within a week from me. Both on skin. Best removal technique
shared by my primary MD and hubby used it on me: wrap dental floss (make a knot)around the tick
and squeeze it off. Both ticks came off live and I saved them. Last one had camped out on my
incision from my hip replacement.

Anybody with an artificial hip is advised to take antibiotics--even for teeth cleaning--to prevent
infection from settling in the hip.

I think I'm calling my primary MD tomorrow and asking for antibiotics.

20. The hip is fine--done almost two years ago. But the ortho guy says
that if you get any infection, get on antibiotics right away. You take them prior to teeth cleaning
to prevent infection. Apparently, it's not worth the risk of getting an infection in the hip because
cleaning it out--replacing the hip replacement--is very nasty.

and i just couldn't get it to work! I wonder if it's easier with the big fat dog ticks... these are wood ticks, and i pretty much just ended up rolling the surrounding dog hair into a dreadlock...

I will keep practicing though, we found 3 more ticks on the pup today! :o

33. I found one last week in my hairline on my neck
I just scratched the back of my neck, felt a clump, thinking it was a piece of lint I began to pull it out and it turned out to be a tick. I itched for a week after that! I guess that's what you get having 2 dogs. They're on Frontline, so not finding a good host, it must've latched onto me. My husband has said that he has seen them falling out of the trees when he walks in the morning.

Then the second one fell out of my hair while i was showering -- and that was the SECOND shower i'd taken since being out in the field! :scared:

I use Advantage on my pups, but they were right at the end of the month -- i should have done it a few days early, because the poor boys got 'em too. :(
