Has anyone seen The Fog of War?
I went and saw it this past weekend (I was very surprised to find that it was playing in my local theater) and I thought it was fabulous... I mean it was depressing subject-wise but the content was great. The stuff that McNamara was talking about seems like its starting to happen all over again. I especially liked the part about knowing and empathizing with your enemies...its something that the current administration should take to heart (even though I know they won't)

Did anyone else see it? If not I highly recommend it (if you are lucky enough to have it play in your home town)

6. I saw it last week
And I thought it was great.

I liked the part where he talked about how if the rest of the world doesn't support what you're doing... what you're doing may not be a good thing.

I had almost forgotten what a lunatic Curtis LeMay was.

7. An absolute must see for all DUers. How can you not see this?
There is a poster out there who will show up here, no doubt, to critique it without seeing it (he already has). Remember, McNamara was a sh*t. His post-Vietnam remembrances are convenient. Still, this is a great movie. Please, DUers: Read "The Past Has Another Pattern" by George Ball, Undersecretary of State under Rusk for the real story. At least, unlike Kissinger, I sense McNamara has a conscience. Too late, Bob.

8. McNamara lied through his teeth...
He placed the blame squarely on the shoulders of Lyndon Johnson. Any historian knows--and Morris omits this--that an ideological battle ensued between the two central doves, George Ball and Clark Clifford (who would change sides), and the rest of Johnson's advisors. LBJ was reluctant and asking the right questions, but McNamara urged him to escalate the war in early summer '65.

I can't believe this war criminal got a standing ovation at Berkeley. If Morris had done his homework, McNamara would be a pariah.

10. Did you see the movie?
There we audio tapes of conversations between McNamara and LBJ, and it seemed like LBJ was doing the pushing toward escalation.

Other than that, I found it pretty ambiguuous.....
