finding Angel a home - craigslist - the only hits I've had were from
a person who had to know if I'd done everything he thought of to find Angel's people, and a person who runs a rescue program with suggestions for "cage training" Angel to make him accept other cats. NO THANKS.

It is very frustrating. I think it's a good ad. I'd think that people might find a de-clawed cat a bonus, but maybe it's the "quiet household" that puts them off.

I don't mind caring for Angel forever, but he needs to be indoors, and he won't come into our house.

1. patience
I've had a calico cat (who just had kittens, thanks idiot owners who dumped her) hang around my house for months, wouldn't go near the house, then yesterday (& today), she zipped inside for a few minutes. Caught me by surprise & I almost closed the door on her too. for you & Angel. I hope he finds a really nice home soon.

2. hi Bertha,
I'd take Angel if I didn't already have two...it sounds like he wouldn't do well with mine. If you want, I'll ask around to see if anyone I know has space.

4. Try churches, community centers, groups for the elderly?
Angel sounds like the perfect companion animal for an older person. Social work agencies that work with seniors, and Meals on Wheels might be good places to contact. I also suggest trying some of the retirement communities and assisted living centers in your area. Some will allow pets, my grandmother's does. After years and years of never having an animal, she took in a cat whose owner had died. Grandma was 84 at the time, living independently in a senior community, and Thomas was a good cat for her for several years.

10. I'll pile on here with Dora - just what I was going to suggest, too
My mom lives in an assisted living facility that allows small pets, and she adopted a declawed cat a few years back. There is a nice fenced outdoor area where all the cats romp, and then my mom and Sweet Pea (her cat) just hang out in her room or the main area with the other residents and their pets the rest of the day.

The cat has improved my mom's life incredibly. Night and day.

Forgive me for not knowing more about Angel - but does s/he allow himself to be handled? Is s/he just intimidated by the rest of your cat family?

11. He's intimidated because he's declawed - that's my theory, anyway.
When one of them comes near he hisses, and it's scary. The others back away. When one of them is standing by the sliding glass door, Angel will hiss and swat at the glass.

This agression is the only means of defense that he has.

He won't be picked up, but he allows us to pet him. I did have to pick him up to take him to the vet, of course, and i'd've been ribbons if he had claws.

6. We already have three indoor cats, and really don't have the room for
any more. Good luck finding a home for Angel.

7. Do you have ads up with the vets in your area? Many of them around here
will post in their offices.
