1. Yes. Yes they were.
And they could go out during the day. Because they glittered.

Yeah.

8. From what I understand, yes and no.
Edited on Sun Mar-22-09 11:45 PM by Lyric
They weren't "vegetarians," per se--they cannot live without ingesting blood. However, the family that Edward comes from made the choice to only drink animal blood, so they wouldn't have to murder human beings. Think Louis during his rat phase. I suppose the ethical morality behind that choice is what's leading to the vegetarian comparisons.

Note: I have NOT actually read these books. I just read the Wiki synopsis of each one, to get an idea of the mythology.

9. this kind of vampire i have problems with
the "harmless" vampire

why have a vampire at all?

the best vampires are the cunning, completely evil ones, that are extremely hard to stop (Count Dracula, etc)

btw, Dracula did come out in daytime occasionally, but he was drastically weakened

I'm sorry, thinking a particular plot device is ridiculously stupid does not make one a 'purist'.

29. I haven't read it, but from what I gather that's just the reason they avoid the sun.
It doesn't hurt them, just makes them stand out. So it does KINDA makes sense for vampires, but not that much sense. :P

17. that's what i'm talking about
Edited on Mon Mar-23-09 12:28 AM by Lethe
where are the badasses?

i mean look at the vampire bag of tricks:

-can shapeshift to wolf, bat, or gaseous vapour (thats the key, cause you could make an impenetrable hiding place where only a gas could go through a crack in the wall, etc)
-immortal - excepting running water immersion, wooden stakes, kukri knife decapitation
-can summon wolves to do your bidding
-enhanced charisma with supernatural mind control / enchantment

and why does every modern vampire try to recruit as many sub-vampires as he/she can? it doesn't make any sense. You want to draw as little attention to your human killing ways as possible in that particular city that you reside in. Converting a large number of humans to vampires only increases the amount of humans you have to kill, to supply blood. A real, wily vampire would never convert a human to vampire, because it would only increase his/her chances of being caught.

20. Too many dumb ass wangs started trying to romanticizing them.
They turned vampires into the emo version of a Star Trek convention.

who "falls in love" (aww!) with a teenager

now that's what i call true romance

22. i blame Coppola who had the audacity to claim "Bram Stoker's Dracula"
when in fact there was zero romance between Dracula and any of the women in the book - it was totally made up for the movie

the count was 100% evil in the book - one scene omitted in the movie was where the romanian mother came to Dracula's castle out of frustration, after Dracula stole her newborn baby and ate it. He laughed and commanded the wolves to rip her apart, which they did.

kind of hard to fall in love with a guy who does things like that.

28. I blame Bela Lugosi.
Not that he did it intentionally, but he infused his portrayal of Dracula with so much romanticism and mystic that it got the ball rolling for his lamer descendants.

25. Vampire movies in the last 15 years have gone in either one of three directions.
1. The pretty boy vampire genre (Interview With a Vampire, Twilight, Queen of the Damned, etc.) that tries to make them so romanticized that they become totally lame.

2. Some kind of underground society in some kind of war with some other supernatural monster (Blade, Underworld).

3. Vampires have been changed from blood suckers to some kind of flesh eating monstrosity (30 Days of Night).

All three have contributed to completely destroying the genre and turning it into something ridiculous.

27. flesh eating is more of a Wendigo thing
not a vampire thing

the Crees had a good Wendigo thing going.

although taboos were absent, the Tonkawas and Karakawas in texas were also cannibals. they ate their more fierce enemies to possess their warlike spirit.
