I have been told that drinking alone
at home is a sign of a problem... but going out, and leaving my kids here alone and hanging out with friends is not?

1. I would think that either one isn't a terribly positive choice.

3. are you entrenched in the alcoholic
economy sub-section?

I look at it this way... I am not drinking to excess, not driving drunk, not absent from my home, saving money

and, well there must be others...

14. Been doing it for years.
Mr. travels, kids aren't old enough. Until recently, I almost always had a glass of wine with dinner, even when he wasn't here.

I figured. I'm not drunk, not even buzzed, so what's the harm?

I'm trying to lose weight now, and the sugar in the wine is impeding, so I quit along with other diet modifications. I figure if I had a problem, I wouldn't have been able to quit so readily without thinking about it all the time.

5. I believe that part of the thinking behind it is...
that people who drink alone may be doing it in lieu of hanging out with other people and/or as a way of compensating for the lack of social interaction.

Let me throw back a few, and then I'll elaborate.

6. If they kids are home with you, you're not alone
Therefore, no problem.

However, if you THINK you have a problem, you really should look into it.

8. I share a snort with my eldest dog to get around that.
He loves him some Amstel Light. He hears the cap pop, and he's like..."dad? CanIhavesome?"

12. Dogs count?
Then I never drink alone.
I catch the little one trying to get a couple of laps in when my back is turned.

10. If you're getting shitfaced every night home alone
then yes, you probably have a problem. If you have a drink or maybe a few drinks or every once in a while get hammered, then you're probably okay.
