Kinky Friedman (of the Texas Jewboys) Runnin' Fer Guvna of Texas
real article on BBC now...

Kinky bid for top job in Texas

Will the Kinkster's pursuit of Dubya's hat stop in Texas?
Eccentric American country singer and writer Kinky Friedman has announced he will stand for George W Bush's old job as Texas governor in 2006. The man behind the Texas Jewboys band and such best-selling crime novels as Kill Two Birds and Get Stoned is set to run as an independent candidate.

While his policies are as yet unclear, Mr Friedman has pledged to "not kiss babies their mothers". Asked why he is standing, he replies: "Why the hell not?"

The cigar-smoking country singer says he wants to "fight the wussification of the state of Texas". "I want to rise and shine and bring back the glory of Texas," he adds, describing himself as a "writer of fiction who tells the truth".

2. What an ignorant answer.
There is more to Texas than what you see now. This used to be an amazing place to live. Kinky wants things to be that way again.

We in Texas have a proud Democratic tradition that was in place until Phil Gramm switched parties. Perhaps you've heard of Ann Richards? Molly Ivins? Jim Hightower? All Texans.

We in Texas have much to be proud of...our beautiful bluebonnets, incredible music scene, lovely beaches, the Alamo, the majesty of Big Bend, a highly-rated university in UT, Blue Bell ice cream, the mosaic-like melding of cultures here, tons of historic and interesting town square courthouses, the Riverwalk, antiquing in Canton for First Monday Trade Days, the winter we don't really have to deal with (except in January), Shiner and Ziegen Bock beer...there's much more.

The assholes that run our government right now and the small minds who've been buying everything the repukes sell are not all there is to our state.

Generalization sucks. Take a pill.
