Trouble in DC; Obama calls DC residents weather wimps!
Obama Jokes Washington Needs to Toughen Up -- Weatherwise
January 28, 2009 11:13 AM

Before meeting with 13 business leaders from around the country in the Roosevelt Room, President Obama offered unsolicited criticism of his new town’s toughness.

“When it comes to the weather, folks in Washington don’t seem to be able to handle things,” Obama said, joking about the first snowfall that blanketed the district with snow and ice Tuesday and overnight. “We are going to have to apply some toughness to this town.”

Malia and Sasha Obama had the day off because of the snow today -- their new school, Sidwell Friends, canceled classes due to the inclement weather.

Tis too true I'm afraid...we are not the same caliber of winter people as Chicagoans...I freely admit being a winter wuss.
Welcome to DC President Obama!

1. HA! That's nuthin'. Wanna see snow wimps? Come to Texas.
We go apeshitcrazy at the sight of a single snow flurry. Not only do we not drive, work, or go to school, but many of us don't own proper winter clothes. My own mom had to borrow a coat for our trip to DC during the inauguration. :D

To our credit though, we can stand ridiculously hot summers.

2. A childhood friend, now in NoVA, calls DC "the city of the snow wimps"
then again, we grew up together in Conn., where districts often try to weasel out of closures with delayed openings, which satisfy no one.

Aside: This gentleman owns Philadelphia Eagles Christmas tree ornaments. I'm series!!111!1 If he weren't married, I might maybe possibly have been able to fix him up...

3. London England is the world capital of snow wimps.
About a quarter inch of snow fell and South Ruislip Air Station (west end of London) was closed for remainder of the day because "the civilian workers have to get home before the snow gets any deeper".
The New England and Midwest Yanks go :wtf:, what snow!?

They can handle fires, plagues, the royals and a blitz without turning a hair, but snow freaked them out.

9. It's actually the psychotic drivers
Too many people in the DC area go through life with fucked-up attitudes about their own self-importance.
God forbid you should try to change lanes in front of one or pass one. These guys think: "I'm the associate deputy assistant to the undersecretary of blah blah blah in the Federal Government so GET OUT OF MY WAY!" With nuts like this on the roads, and more than half of them yammering away on their cell phones, driving under normal conditions is hazardous. With a bit of ice or snow, it's insanity.

I grew up in northern NJ back in the 60s when the lakes froze solid for three months every year. I've driven in all kinds of road conditions. But since we moved to suburban Maryland 18 years ago, you won't find me on the roads with these assholes in winter weather.
