What The Hell Happened to Adult Swim

It used to be great. Now, it just sucks. Their old shows had wit and humor, SeaLab, Birdman, Stroker & Hoop. Now, their shows are lame and overly violent, Metalocalypse, Super Jail, Assy McGee.

What happened to them?

I used to watch Lucy Daughter of the Devil but that hasnt been around.

4. Just caught something called Code Geass: Lelouch (or something like that)

It looked rather interesting...even if I did have to go to Wikipedia to find out WTF? was going on...

I'm a bit of a sucker for Japanese-style anime...
You know the kind...where the plots are complicated and mobiused in upon themselves with lots of technology and mysticism...and the characters are of obviously Western (read: Caucasion) descent but say things to each other like "You're Japanese, aren't you?"...or they have inprobable hair color (pink, green, purple), and the guys tend to have either more musculature than most football teams, or are so willowy they disappear when turned sideways...and/or these incredible tattoos...

It does kind of bother me that the women are mostly portrayed with at least size-DD cup bazooms and their 'working clothes' consist of either shorts/micromini skirts, halters, 3" spike boots (holster with weapon optional) or schoolgirl uniforms. :shrug:

I really enjoyed the first season, but the second season was a total train wreak (I watched it as it came out in Japan, rather than the dub, but...)

Adult Swim is the only reason I watch TV. I would also like to point out Aqua Teen Hunger Force is the greatest animated series ever created. Carl could kick the shit out of any of the loser characters on Sealab.

Honorable Mention goes to: Metalocalypse, Squidbillies, Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job and Robot Chicken. If it wasn't for the Daily Show, I'd probably never turn the channel.

They saw that you could put up some of the most irrational, illogical and unreasonable looking characters in a show and get away with it. They ignored the fact that the main characters were actually very funny and one of them at the very least was quite observant of the world around him. So now instead of more Venture Brothers, robot chicken, Harvey Birdman, moral orel and a whole bunch of other great shows you'll now get three dildos and a cumquat.

Adult Swim is still very good on the whole, IMHO, although some of their newer shows are completely off the mark. I disagree with you about Metalocalypse (it took a while for that one to grow on me), and I'm warming up to Super Jail, but Assy McGee, the shows from Tim & Eric, Drinky Crow, etc. I can really do without.

And I really, really miss seing Futurama in their lineup. :(
