Can urine tests detect gender?
I'll bet you know why I need to know. AN answer from someone with actual medical training or experience testing would be awesome.

1. If it can detect testosterone levels it can probably make a good guess
And I wouldn't advise you trying to swap out a couple pee samples if you're trying to trick a drug test. They'll figure it out, eventually.

2. Yes but
I don't think routine U/As include a test of hormone levels.

5. It's not just hormones. Some minerals are also higher in certain genders
Calcium in particular precipitates differently in each gender, especially as we get older.

If you're going to fake a pee test, get a sample from someone as near in sex/age to you as possible.

3. It only can if it can conjugate the verb
:P

Now, if it can determine the sex, well, I don't know that ;)

4. A standard urine test used for employment cannot, CANNOT, detect
gender. It can detect the presence of creatinine, pH levels and sometimes they will reject samples that appear watered down.

11. That happened to my mom. She had a kidney infection and was drinking lots of water.
She explained the situation and was given permission to go give a second sample. She got the job.

6. depends on what they are screening for.
Oh and men have been caught by having women who are unknowingly pregnant giving them urine. Because pregnancy (a certain hormone level) IS something that is screened for very often.

13. well in certain environments.
where you might be exposed to possibly toxic and teratogenic chemicals they DO look for pregnancy specifically. Legally they have to.

8. They can be used to make a guess at sex via hormone levels
I don't really know that they could be definitive with that unless the sample tested positive for pregnancy. More than man going in for a drug test has got caught swapping samples that way. I suppose if one had a huge budget they could also look for skin cells in the sample and do a DNA test, but while that's possible it's hardly likely.

On the other hand, they can't tell gender at all. Gender is mental self-perception of one's maleness or femaleness or lack thereof. Sex is biological and is reflected in things like hormone levels.
