This is a 84W processor on 90nm with a low nominal voltage. It should be way cooler.

Is the fan mounted properly and did you use some kind of thermal conductive?

Do you have a graphics card that is dumping the heat back into the case?

11. I did recently clean both fans.

I might have put one back in wrong. Shouldn't they both draw air in? Or could I have remounted them wrong?

The graphics in the game I play are pretty intensive too. That could be happening.

It runs around 54 to 55 degrees Celsius when I'm only on DU and not playing the game or watching video. If I watch video or play a game, it goes up to somewhere between the 61 and 63 degree range. It very well could be partially due to the video card. I wonder what I can do to keep from messing up my computer. I don't want to lose it.

Is the heatsink in the middle?

If so, then both fans should be blowing in the same direction. One draws the air in to cool the heatsink, the other pulls that air away from it.

and the CPU is located slightly lower, but across from it. Judging by the fan on the Power Supply and the other fans, I would say it has an overall front to back air flow.

one thing to do if you're concerned it stick a desk fan right in front of the box and everything will be chilly even through the worst of times.

I'm freezing my ass off here with the floor fan pointed toward it. I like your idea better than what I'm doing until I can get a desk fan. It's cold on me this way but hard to get the temp below 53 degrees without the game running. Brrrr.... :scared:

17. The number you read was the maximum case temp

where the stock cooler can handle a P4 at full load. I used to run my nvidia 6800GT at 190C *gasp* I later use compressed air to clean it out, and it ran a lot cooler.

I'm running an AMD 9950 Quad and Have a Zalman fan as big as a softball and have to work to keep it under 50c when gaming.

Of course, if I had an extra couple of hundred I could water cool the whole box.

I just checked and I'm running 49c at the moment with Photoshop and Dreamweaver running in the background while spending way too much time here.

Back to the OP, I have often daydreamed of using a duct system to the outside during the winter because with three 8800 GTS's the box is like a heater in the summer.

The 8800GTS is probably your culprit, you could warm your toes on it. Consider increasing the speeds on your case fan to move the hot air it generates out, everything else will cool down in turn because they aren't getting hot air blown around them. Plan a direction, in through the front and out the back, preferably over the hard drives first in front, then past the graphics card, and finally out through the case. The CPU should vent itself nicely with a steady airflow. If all else fails, buy a 20 dollar fan, open your case side, point that fan right in, and nothing will overheat.

That's why PowerMacs are sold with old tech for video cards.

23. I'm using an Antec Soprano case

which is an excellent case with a large fan on the side directly over the CPU plus fans fore and aft. The EVGA video cards each have their own fans and venting systems. They can heat the room while the motherboard maintains at 40c or below.

So far, I haven't found a game that she won't handle.

24. My last system shit the bed

so I bought an Antec P182 case, and an Antec 650W Signature power supply, an Intel E8500 Core 2 Duo 3.16 Ghz, and now it's got an nNvidia 280 GTX card. It's running nominal temps. The fan in front of the HDs is doing well. And it's all but silent until I push it with Crysis with everything in Ultra mode. Bioshock doesn't even register with the temps, it can handle it easy.

The P182 case is really sweet, it's just worth the extra dollars.

19. Funny you should mention that. In my office at our old house, I rigged up

a wood insert to put in the bottom of the window near my workstation, and ran a length of 1-inch flexible tubing from a hole in the insert to the intake grille of my computer during the winter. Talk about cool!

(I'm much less obsessive these days.)
