54. I'm a lefty and love

my Nikon though nothing bad to say about Canon. I like how it feels but I like a camera with some heft to it, just feel sturdier. I also like the controls since there is no having to push a separate button to adjust both aperture and shutter speed. Quality wise there isn't much difference between the two. How it feels in your hand is very important so I would say if the Canon feels better go for it.

It's a bit heavy but has a lot of cool features, many of which I haven't figured out yet.

34. Yes, though I haven't tried that yet.

One other thing I like about it is that the body is designed with seals that make it fairly water-resistant so it can get wet (not submerged) without being damaged. Since I take it with me when sailing this is a nice feature.

39. No, it's not an underwater camera. Just water-resistant

so you can take pictures in the rain or somewhere you might get splashed, like on a boat. Underwater cameras are REALLY expensive.

is pretty good for what it is: a nigh-indestructible tank of a manual camera with relatively cheap but high-quality lenses.

85. One of the nicest things about digital

is being able to send the photos over the Internet to be printed.

I send mine to the local Walgreens and pick them up in an hour for $.19 a piece (4"x6".) If the photos are for somebody else, I just route them to the Walgreens closest to them. This last summer, I shot photos at a wedding (I wasn't the pro, just an attendee), routed them to a Walgreens within a few blocks of the reception hall, and gave the photos to the couple at the reception.

The very best thing about digital is being able to shoot photos at will, deleting what you don't like, and then editing for your personal taste. The other morning I shot 217 photos at my bird feeder in less than 8 minutes (while heating my breakfast.) Of the 217, I printed only 4, but they were grand photos.

but believe that I would be equally happy with a Nikon. My decision was based mainly on having owned Canon before and being pleased with it. I decided what glass I wanted and bought a camera with the money that was leftover. I figure that the glass should last for the rest of my life, but I will probably own several more cameras.

91. It does fix exposure time when I have it set to.

I think I can use it like a manual camera, I did that with the lens the other day when the camera wanted to focus on the closest item and I wanted it to focus on one further away.

I'm still learning how to use it and I would love know more about exposure and the like.

49. Nikon D80 and Coolpix that is several years old.

The D80 has a 18-80ish Sigma zoom lens. Also, it has two fixed Nikon lenses: a 35ish mm f/1.8 and a 20ish mm f/2.8.

Also, I have a Pentax SP1000 35mm with a non-functioning light meter, several screw-mount lenses and filters.

I have a Kodak "Signet 40" 35mm with filters. (flash bulbs are no longer available)

Vivitar rangefinder 110. (film, batteries and flash cubes are no longer available.)

Minolta Weathermatic waterproof 35mm automatic.

My Sweetie (DU name "Gizmonic") has a Cannon AE something SLR that is really nice. She has several lenses including a cool Tammeron 28-80mm marco-zoom.

Just shy of $300-ish when I got it. But it takes underwater snapshots- it's not a REAL underwater camera like the old tried and true Nikonos V of old. I think it is only rated for about 10 feet or so of depth, so it's more for snorkeling and taking pics of your kids in the pool.

I just bought a Nikon D-60 this summer with a couple nice lenses and am very happy with it. I just have always been around Nikons and am comfortable with them. We used F-2's and -3's for documenting work in the field, and they were always reliable, except when my boss backed the Suburban over the camera bag.:rofl: Hey, I didn't put it there! Anyways, I agree with The Canon users above. They are both good brands, with good selections of accessories and support for their products!

67. I voted Canon, but that is for digital

for the film format I have a Minolta SRT 201 which is a real dinosaur. Fully manual and the only thing that has a battery on it is the light meter. I drug that through sand, over rocks and in all kinds of weather. It was used when I got it, and it still works. (Needs a good cleaning though)

I also have a Minolta 700SX (?) I can't check the model # right now since it is in the bedroom and you NEVER wake the wife for something like that.:grr:

Anyway, I've had that one for about 20 years or more and it still gives great service Will take great night shots (I used to take the balloon glow).

I was pulled kicking and screaming into the digital camera age with my Canon Rebel XTI and after I got a decent tele lens, I've been very happy with it. I shot my niece's wedding with it and didn't have a single problem in over 800 shots. But it has features that I'm still learning.

were about the same as their Canon and Fuji equivalents, but they seem to go on sale more often than Canon does. I got an eight megapixel Kodak which normally ran for $159 and paid half price for it new about a year ago.

When that Best Buy insert hits your Sunday paper, there will probably be a deal on something Kodak. I still carry my five megapixel model around everywhere, it's been banged up like a cheap Timex, and it still works perfectly.

On edit: BTW, I've recently learned that you can often save a lot off of retail with digital cameras (more so than with lots of other products) on eBay. That's how my sister is doing her camera shopping this year, and she went Kodak too before we even talked about it.

80. I've used Nikons since the 1970s

But my first dig was an Olympus, which took fine pictures. Made the switch back to Nikon (D80) and I love it. Came with 2 kit lenses which are sharp and lightweight. Plus I can use them for Macro photography, which I do a lot of. The D80 can be found pretty cheap now, since Nikon introduced the D90.

87. Panasonic DMC-FZ28. Here's a shot of some Jovian moons I took earlier this month.

It's just a point and shoot, but it has 32.1x optical zoom (yeah, I meant optical, it's advertised as 18x, but in extended optical zoom, it's 32.1x), great image stabilization, HD video mode, 10 megapixel images, raw storage and pretty much complete control.

It was true when I went to photography school *cough cough* years ago... and its just as true today - though no one take real photographs anymore. hmph.

In *real* (aka NOT digital) photography - the lens makes the image. Nikon. No contest.
