I hate the Dallas Cowboys.
I mean, really hate them. What's the problem? I was born in Dallas and I live in Dallas. So to say that aloud is to risk mass outrage.

So why do I hate them? O let me count the ways:

1. They're constantly shoved down your throat around here. Total strangers in line at the store will ask you with a maniacal grin on their face if you "SAW THE BOYS LAST NIGHT? DIDJA SEE 'EM??? MAN IT WAS GOOD!! YOU DIDN'T SEE THE GAME?????????? REALLY???????" Yeah, like you're a freak because you didn't watch it. Which is why I love it when they lose: people shut the fuck up about them.

2. This isn't their fault, but my stepfather was obsessed with them when I was growing up. And if they lost, we were beaten. (He drank, too.) For their field-goal loss in the Superbowl playoffs to the Redskins in 1979, I got my left arm broken and my mother got a black eye. I hate any GAME that people take so seriously they let it rule their life, booze or not.

3. The vulgar obscene monstrosity of a stadium they are building in Arlington. I'm just glad I don't live in that God-forsaken city because thanks to a slim majority of taxpayers, they are PAYING for that stupid thing. It's huge, it's ugly, and it's a mess.

4. This is probably related to #1, but did you know you can get your entire car, or more likely SUV, detailed in Cowboys blue and silver, even down to a custom paint job? You wouldn't think many people would be THAT insane, but you'd be wrong. Did you know perfectly normal looking women are insane about the Cowboys? And that it's social suicide to admit you don't like them? Just imagine if I said I HATED them.

5. Cowboys shit everywhere--shirts, caps, bumper stickers, sweatpants, sweatshirts, flags, foam fingers, MAILBOX EMBLEMS, DOG SWEATERS, TODDLER GIRL'S BATHING SUITS.

I always pray for them to lose. I send them bad losing juju every time they play. I caused them to lose in the Superbowl playoffs last year. I celebrated when the Giants won.

I can only admit it here.

1. Lots of Dallasites hate the Cowboys.
Just you experience with your stepfather justifies your attitude. I think the reason Cowboys fans are loyal is that the team has been loyal to Dallas. They started out in Dallas and will probably never move to another city. Lots of teams in the NFL can't make that claim.

2. I can't say I hate them
And I can certainly see you have a lot more personal reasons than I do for any team to hate the Cowboys.

But I do want to see them lose. Badly. All the time. Especially to the Eagles. Is that so wrong?

3. Not wrong at all. Let's get our LOSE COWBOYS! bad juju together
to make it more powerful!

I want them to lose to the Redskins, really badly. Anytime they play them. Because that pisses off Cowboys fans more than normal losses.

4. My issue with the Dallas Cowboys...
This "America's Team" shit... (Who says? Some media sportscaster commentator asshat back in the '80s?)

They're like the Yankees, they try to buy Super Bowl rings by hiring up the most expensive "talent", with predictably fail results. The goof-du-jour? Terrell "Waahhh, somebody throw me the ball, or I'll get on TV and make a stink" Owens. As an Eagles fan, I was glad to see him go. When the Cowboys picked him up I said, "I wonder how long it's going to take for him to start whining about how he's carrying the team and he should get the ball every other play?" 2 seasons. I'm surprised it took so long.

Terrell is a crybaby -- I can't stand that guy.

My favorite NFL teams are the Buffalo Bills and any team playing the Cowboys.

6. There is only one solution to your dilemma
become a Redskins fan, and just deal with the dilemma of heart troubles due to their suckitude at times when suckitude is truly unwarranted.

:D

On a serious note, I am truly sorry about what happened to you when the Cowboys lost. No child should have to go through that.

8. Or, and just hear me out on this,
you both could become Eagles fans. At least they are consistantly average and get your hopes up that they may make something of themselves every year. And Cowboys fans like the Eagles just slightly more than they like the Redskins. Another bonus.

Just sayin.

10. In Philly we are taught to hate the Cowboys at a very early age
just...punch anything that resembles a blue star with a silver background, pretty much. The hatred for Dallas really DOES go that far here...they are mortal enemies.
I'm really not into sports all that much, and personally think the Eagles are not going anywhere this season, but still whenever the Cowboys lose we celebrate.

And a GREAT Cowboy game when they get stomped big time.

24. It's getting to be that bad in Indianapolis with the Colts
Everybody and his brother, mother, aunts, uncles, kith and kin from near and far is in Colts blue around here since they won the Super Bowl the other year. It wasn't like this 10 years ago. The barely paid the team any attention. Now you'd think Peyton Manning is the second coming. (I think some of the Fundies in town do think he's Christ Incarnate. Others think he's Gomer Pyle with a big paycheck.)

It's bad enough that my Browns suck, but at least when I lived in Ohio the damned Bengals fans could only be obnoxious about their team having been to a Super Bowl. I could still fall back on the NFL championships the Browns had when I was little. Plus, these days the Bengals suck almost as bad as the Lions so I don't hear much from the Cincy fans which is fine by me.

But the Colts fans? Irritating right now, but they're working on obnoxious. (Here's hoping the Browns are good again sometime soon. Yeah, right.)

and I have no interest in the Cowboys. But then again, I have no interest in any football team really. I seem to have had the "team fan" gene turned off at birth. I can be a fan of individual athletes, if they are exceptional people both on and off field.

I'll never understand how anyone can be a fan of a sports team simply because of the town or the name.

Several years ago, 7 of my associates (all male, myself included) were sitting around a table at lunch a few days before the super-bowl. We realized that none of us knew what two teams would be in the SuperBowl. Must be something about photography and film people.

54. Get help! Jesus Christ, you are in Dallas
What do you expect? What if you lived in Green Bay? You won't find a more obsessed fan. That's the only team in town, and they rightfully love them. Would you feel the same way?

You're right - every Dallasite needs to not be a fan of the Cowboys. We'll work on that.

And by the way, we have to be very accepting of fans from other regions. They move down here by the busload. 6 years ago, I had a Packer fan across the street from me, a Bears fan caddie corner, and next door an Arkansas Razorback fan. Three homes occupied by people from 3 different states. We're used to that in the Dallas area. The Packer fan flew his flag on gameday. Do you think I could fly a Cowboy flag on gameday in the New York area without getting crap for it? Doubt it.

60. No, actually, if I'd grown up with #2 I'd hate them too
I'd hardly say that was irrational

a passable year if the Eagles beat Dallas in Philly, no matter what the rest of the year looked like.

This year the game will be on Dec.28th.

Might be the meanest game of the year.

67. 40 year old bandwagon fans
The Cowboys, like the Steelers, have a huge number of guys in their late thirties to mid forties as fans. These knobs jumped on with the Cowboys because they were the hot team circa 1978. For years I heard them snark about the Patriots. They've been strangely quiet for the last seven years, though.

69. Wow. My thoughts exactly.
I was just about to post that the main reason I hate the Cowboys is because of all the weenies who jumped on the bandwagon when I was a kid (I'm 43). I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees that. :)

74. With the Steelers that isn't a bandwagon, it's a local civic religion undergoing diaspora
The reason there are steeler fans everywhere in the country is that 24 years ago when the mills started closing, young people left because the jobs were elsewhere. For many of them the football games on TV are one of the few frequent connections to home.

70. I'm not worthy! I'm not worthy!
I, too, hate the Dallas Cowpies. This is a matter of public record. Thing is, I've never, ever, not ever lived in Dallas, nor shall I. The closest approach I have yet made is New Orleans.

It is well known that there are R*dsk*ns haters in and around DC, but this? All I can say is: :yourock: !!

77. You live in Dallas what did you expect?
It's kind of like me bitching because everyone around me is a Panthers fan. Of course I wouldn't bitch about that because I happen to like the Panthers. Even when they were a shitty team.

78. How sad about your father reacting so horribly because of
football. I've heard that there's more domestic violence on the Super Bowl than any other day.
