the week is almost over. Today we have our Christmas Party at work. Each of us brings some dishes or wine so we have a really nice home-cooked (on most parts) buffet. And we have a Secret Santa. We collect all gifts and then we have a lottery. So no one knows what he/she gets and no one knows who gets his/her gift :D
Oh and I did the organisation :crazy:

10. doctoral research progress report

basically, justifying my existence from the last 18 months so as to keep my funding for another 18. This is the paper that will make me an official PhD candidate. If this gets ok'd, then I'm let off and running on my dissertation.

I think they'll find a way to keep giving me the money - the way that the funding is set up, the money already exists there for me. It's just a matter of me not fucking up so much that I lose it.

After this, I just need to figure out how to get some sort of thing that will allow me to stay in England, or at least somewhere EU. No way do I want to move back to the US without a job with the way things are now... 3 years over here seemed like a long time once, but it's going by very quickly.

Sounds like you had a great holiday party at work. Our staff party next week. It's off site so there will be some (ahem) drinking involved. But no one overindulges.

Our work party is this Saturday. That would be fun too.

Went out to dinner last night and ate far too much. I'm not ready for breakfast this morning. :rofl: Will bring some yogurt and granola to work and have breakfast later. ;)

The party is today at 6pm here. It hasn't happened yet. This morning we prepared the tables. What I ment with that sentence is that I was in charge of the party. Getting everyone invited, making a list who brings what to eat/drink, who is part of the Secret Santa ...

Eating tangerines at the moment. Tonight will be the excessive eating :rofl:

15. Ohhhhh . . . we're doing

Secret Santa at our work too! We purchase three gifts (not expensive, and can be something as simple as a coupon to scrape the snow and ice off of recipients car, etc.) and "secretly" give two of the gifts to recipient and the last gift is brought to the party where we reveal ourselves.

If excessive eating was an Olympic sport, I'd certain win a gold medal during the holidays! :rofl:

Sounds like you're a great organizer. Your colleagues should be thankful. ;)

16. We collect the gifts

(not expensive either). Then we number them and the ones who were giving gifts draw a number (written on a piece of paper). That way no one knows who his/her gift is from.

Let's see. We have different salads, some anti-pasti, a lot of cakes and cookies, wine, beer, beverages ... and a lot more which I don't know the words in English.

17. We exchanged gifts

at our dinner party last night, and used the same numbering system, but with a twist. We could "steal" someone elses gift if we wanted to. It's a lot of fun.

Great menu! I love potluck parties. There's always a great variety of foods.

Yeah, I know I'm bad, but my mother had back surgery yesterday, and I ended up spending the evening with her, because my dad had a meeting. There was no way I could get the baking done. :shrug: They should taste good, they are a gourmet brand. At least I hope so.

Sounds like a fun party.

I am currently at work, but that could change soon. The weather is supposed to worsen throughout the day, so I may have to leave early if they close the school.

I bought my xmas tree yesterday and put it up. It fell 6 times so far and many ornaments have broken. Oh Well. :shrug:

My dad is supposed to visit this weekend. I am sure he will secure it while he is here :thumbsup:

Oddly enough it has been raining here for days it seems. It was up in the high 50s yesterday! We even had flash flood warnings...

We had our "party" last week. I made another batch of cupcakes. I made TOO MANY. as usual. It worked out because I called the neighbor girls over to collect the extras and it just so happened that their birthdays were both this week.

Yup.. I told them I knew and made 'em cupcakes through a goofy grin. ;)
