1. Yeah, somebody was going to cure my toothache
by tapping (not on my tooth, but on something else) so I wouldn't have to have a root canal. The person I know who advocates this believes in everything.

Its ridiculous.

3. I know of it, but I've never had the patience or inclination to learn it.
There's a good book on energy healing that I have that includes it. I'll see if I can find the title for you...

Here it is: Energy Medicine by Donna Eden
I know she gets into kinesiology, too, but I remember something like EFT in it as well.

4. Tapping has always freed me emotionally
On the other hand, the guy who is actually doing the tapping here has been known to be an emotional basket case at times :evilfrown:

5. Yes, I edited a book about it
It basically uses some acupuncture/acupressure points, but instead of using needles or pressing down, the practitioner (or the person) taps on the spot. It's combined with affirmations and psychotherapy with the instructor.

You know, if you want some serious information on this technique, the Lounge is probably not the best place for this thread. You might want to visit us over at the Astrology, Spirituality, and Alternative Healing forum--you'd get more of a serious discussion on the topic. :hi:

9. My drum master says something like that.
"If you sing the song while you play you will crowd out that critical little voice in your head."
It works for me.

As for tapping I went through a therapy regimine for PTSD that included tapping.Very effective, too. However,it seems to be differant than what the OP is asking about.

15. No shit? Tapping for PTSD?
wtf. How did that work? I was pretty hostile to therapy when I needed it most; so I delayed treatment until it was alomost too late. I blew off all the psychologists when I shouldn't have.

16. It was interesting.
Unfortunately,I can't remember exactly what it was called.
I was having nightmares from an incident. The therapist had me sitting in a chair, relaxed with my eyes closed. We did the standard phsychotherapyquestionanswerdescribe feelings etc etc...
While we were doing that he would lightly tap me on my legs and arms with a pointer. When he tapped me I was to move my eyes as if I was looking at where he tapped me.Remember,my eyes were closed while he was doing this.Pretty soon he his tapping at a good pace and my eyeballs were twitching back and forth like crazy.
Somehow this is supposed to mimick REM sleep in the brain and somehow it has a therapeautic effect. How and why I have not a clue.
But in my case it worked. The nightmares tapered off sharply within a couple of weeks.

11. Actually I know quite a bit
some swear by it

some scoff

I've used it to some degree with some things

I don't think it is a cure all, but

it uses acupuncture points and tapping paired with disturbing thoughts until they are neutralized and then pairing new positive thoughts with the tapping to produce new feelings.

Can't hurt to try it I don't think.

Been to a couple of workshops on it and have known a couple of practitioners who swore that it cured everything from gagging on the toothbrush to phobias.

People scoff at EMDR which has about as much logic as this does, maybe less, yet it has been paid for by insurance companies.

This has been given away free (the instruction manual) and there are many variations of it.

It is a variation of someone else's work that involved tapping in the same way. There are as I said several different "schools" of tapping.

If you are interested you know how to reach me.

it works

no one can really explain it in more than psuedoscience but yeah, it works!

glad it helped you

I had it used with me with less success, but some diminishment of the reaction.

27. I don't know about tapping
the comment SPK made was that there's not a lot of clinical evidence for tapping or EMDR, but for some, it works.

24. One of my sisters went through EMDR when she was at an insitution
that specializes in this, and she felt it didn't help at all. Her feeling was that it helped for a brief period of time and then worsened things.

14. I took two classes in it
the first class wasnt that successful, but on the second one I took two days before I had to drive to Miami.

I had a severe bridge phobia. I did not have any problems crossing bridges on that trip, nor have I ever since.

You can go to www.emofree.com to see if there is a practitioner in your area.

28. i used the five minute phobia cure
not sure if this is the same thing, it was kinesthesia, but it was literally just "tapping" for a few minutes on certain spots

i never had the phobia again and it has been almost 20 yrs and living where i do, i drive over the world's longest bridge (24 miles!) frequently!

the price is right, it was like magic for me

20. I almost ordered a book on "tapping." I would never laugh at something like this. But I
read a bit about it, and I read some review of the books about it, and I decided not to order the book. It sounded like it would less effective than some of the things I was already doing.

I had actually tried "energy medicine" (don't laugh, please) on my dog that had cancer. It involved tapping, and I never could decide whether it helped or not. I have an entire kit on energy medicine, and two textbooks. But life was moving so fast I didn't have the time to study it and really implement it as I should have.

Most likely I did not give it a chance.

I'm skeptical but not a disbeliever in things that are not "proven." I take hundreds of dollars of supplements a month, I eat organic, I meditate, do yoga, believe in the healing power of animals, and even dabble in things like Tarot cards and Remote Viewing, so I'm not so stodgy, inflexible person.

25. Just for clarification, are you speaking of energy medicine "tapping" or
Eye Movement therapy, where you repeatedly, under the guidance of a licensed therapiset, relive a traumatic event while shifting your vision rapidly from side to side?

29. Oh god, not this crap again.
EMDR, tapping, thought field therapy....These are all voodoo treatments used by recovered "memory" charlatans.

It is all crap with no basis in science. How pathetic that we are still hearing about ANY of this in 2009.
