1. I like both, but neither is my favorite. I'd rather have a good fruit pie with freshly whipped cream

2. I'd rather have chocolate pie, but if I had to choose between the tart
pies, I'd go with the lemon.

3. I don't know which I would choose. I guess it would depend on my mood -
they're both good.

7. I so agree. Best I ever had was at Mangrove Mama's in the Lower Keys
(Last key before you cross to Key West) Great funky restaurant and incredible Key Lime Pie.

Haruka just asked,"What the hell is an icebox pie"????? I had to explain to her (I lived in NC for 17 years, so I love icebox pies!).

14. Is it a southern thing? Well, I'll be damned. I didn't even know that.
I guess "icebox" should have given it away. My dad still will call the fridge the icebox from time to time.

10. I like them both but lime is my favorite flavor,
followed closely by lemon. How about you make both and send me the key lime one?

But, hey, it can't be that hard can it?

20. For some reason, I feel like they would be hard to make.
Not sure why I feel that way. I haven't even looked at a recipe to see what it involves.

I probably wouldn't be good at lemon meringue though. I suck at meringue. I made a good meringue once and only once. I can't seem to understand what a "stiff peak" for the meringue is.

22. My mother who died in 1969 made the best lemon icebox pies.
I have found a reasonable substitute in Edward's Lemon Meringue Pies. Not perfect, but tasty.

25. it's usually a variation on the Eagle Brand recipe
....which is Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk, lemon juice and zest, an egg yolk, stirred together and put in a graham cracker or baked and cooled pastry shell, then refrigerated.

Some recent variations add cool whip to the filling, and some use lemonade instead of juice, etc.

24. coconut cream, or coconut custard?
I just took a coconut custard pie from the oven an hour ago. It's very good. It was a test pie. I bake for my family member's espresso cafe, and I often test recipes at home with the teenage track star to clean it up. Ha!

I am curious whether people like coconut cream better than coconut custard.

26. my father made the most exquisite lemon meringue pie known to man...
but that I made an exception for because... frankly... citrus and pie as a combo have never really made sense to me...pie is a curious enough creature unto itself, but I don't get the citrus angle... unless my dad made it. Then, we're talking heaven. He was the best cook I've ever met or ever will meet and I miss that... was a drag in high school because the last thing I wanted to do was gain weight... and here I have a dad making exquisite dinners every bloody night.

I ran track. : )
