Seriously, does anyone care who wins VH1's Charm School with Sharon Osbourne? Do we care who will be Paris Hilton's BFF? Is Gene Simmons's life relevant enough that we really want to see what he is doing on a day to day basis?

I find it seriously depressing that this is it--this is the best that TV producers can come up with to fill their TV schedules. Shows that are so forgettable and unworthwhile, you'd really wish that the TV channels just not bother and instead put up a test pattern instead.

2. It's all about the budget
They don't have to pay writers, or actors, or production staff.

Reality shows are cheap, in so many, many ways.

3. Very true.
I guess the real problem is that so many of the reality shows you just don't care. There are a couple with engaging persons or situations, but for the most part, it's all about people whoring for attention--whether that is a washed up celebrity or a nobody looking for their 15 minutes.

With scripted shows, at least you get the chance to care about the characters and the situations they are involved in. If a scripted show is done right, you'll either watch thinking that a character is funny (if it is a comedy) or sympathetic (if it is a drama). Even if the scripted show isn't done right, it's intention is still there.

5. All reality TV sucks
I think the music and fake, manufactured drama hypnotizes dolts.

I have the same issue with hour long game shows that allow you to watch some loud dumbass pick a stupid briefcase.
