How much money do you think it would take to start a cheesecake manufacturing business?
My dream is to create cheesecakes and sell them for not so cheap over the internet

3. Depends on how many you want to make at a time.
If you're looking to be artisinal and only sell a few a day, you could operate out of your kitchen, and you'd want to invest in some heavy springform pans and a kitchenaid mixer. And a freezer, more than likely. Total startup cost $1Kish?

If you were looking to make lots and lots a day, you'd need a big hobart mixer, a commercial oven, premises, multiple fridges and freezers, etc. That'd be a lot more.

from here many times. They always arrived intact.

22. Are these the "cakey" kind often sold in...
supermarkets and convenience stores? They can be tasty, to be sure, but are nothing like the pure, fleeting pleasure of a New York cheesecake which is a delicate colloidal supension of milk fats that can be upset with the motions of a cab ride, to say nothing of UPS handlers. And which must remain chilled.

Junior's legendary cheesecake rarely made it from Brooklyn across the Williamsburg bridge in it's orignal form no matter how gentle the ride, as the creamy goodness flattened and separated never making it past 14th Street.

Still tasty and eminently edible, but having lost it's soul, not worth the trip any more.

A startup for a luxury item sounds a bit risky right now unless you can spare the capital if the bidness goes under.

The kitchen will be the biggest cost. A website, business license and commercial kitchen license shouldn't cost very much.


Most home kitchens cannot be licensed as commercial kitchens. Even if you are only selling online the health codes are no different than if you open a store.

So if you plan on doing it by the book, you will need to get your own commercial kitchen or see if it is feasible to set up a commercial kitchen at your residence (check local health codes).

You can find commercial kitchens to rent by the day/hour. It might be the best way to go until you build up your business to a level that would require a full time kitchen or generate enough revenue to get you own.

in my observation a person can pretty much lose unlimited funds starting their own catering business, it has to be the worst business going

a friend of mine lost a LOT of money that she didn't have to lose doing something v. similar
