1. Why would it be boring?
Sounds like someone's shitty team isn't in it.

2. I happen to like teams other than the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, etc.
I think it's awesome that the Rays are going to the WS a decade after their inception. And the Phillies have a pretty awesome team, not the least of which is the 45 year old Jamie Moyer.

I would have preferred Milwaukee/Tampa but this is still great.

4. Why would it be boring?
Both play entertaining baseball. But neither is one of the glamour market of NY, Boston or LA so thats why its boring? Boy thats a snobby attitude.

5. In the end, good baseball is all that counts
and those two teams can play some good baseball. Tampa is a great story...from worst to first is always fun.

Besides...it ain't over 'til it's over and neither team has won the four games necessary to move on.

la vs boston is what everyone wanted to watch.

tampa bay vs philadelphia?

that would be like watching the little league world series.

sorry...

21. thank you for outing yourself as the casual, gloryseeking, johnny-come-lately 'fan'
ironically, a lot of MLB's errors in rule changes and mismanagement have come from bending over backwards to cater to "fans" like you...

See you in spring training...

It'll be worse than having the Spurs in the NBA finals.

8. Possibly.
Tampa Bay has no market value in terms of television ratings and Philadelphia is quite small also.

9. actually, i think this is the best world series in years.
if it does indeed turn out to be philly vs. tampa. it's good for the sport that none of these ridiculously bloated payrolls make their way into the finals for once. gives me hope that someday the pirates might actually be in a world series.

10. Don't know much about the Rays, other than they can be pretty
explosive and unpredictable.
The Phils have been #1 in the NLE for most of the summer, and actually have great pitching and a lot of good hitters.

Both are very well rounded, quick and athletic teams, very good to watch.

Rays have never been, Phils haven't been in decades.

I usually don't watch the WS because the same teams generally play dull games, but I will be watching every minute this year.
It will be the best in many years, maybe one of the best ever.
OP, are you a Dodger fan? Or Boston?

There are other teams besides New York and Boston.

Finally a team wins that doesn't have a billion-dollar payroll.

Fuck the Yankees and Red Sox. I am glad they lost.

Other cities have baseball and some of them have GREAT baseball! I've become a big fan of Phillies of late and they play great ball. And since when is Philly a small market?

13. Schmuck! You can't be much of a real baseball fan.
Phillies are a highly entertaining team to watch, with some great characters and story lines.
Tampa also seems to be a fun team to watch. .
And by the way, they are not in the world series yet.

15. Are you kidding????
First of all, never assume. You know how that can turn out.

But more importantly, Philadelphia is absolutely ROCKING right now - they've been waiting for this for a long time. My guys have ALOT of heart, they love their job, and they love their fans.

I can't speak for Tampa, but I can assure you that if there is one word that could describe a World Series with the Phillies involved, "boring" isn't one of them. ;)

16. A boring series would be another one with the Red Sox or Yankees involved.
Tampa Bay is far and away the most entertaining and enjoyable team to watch in all of major league baseball. And the Phillies are pretty exciting too.

18. no....love of baseball is love of baseball
true fans don't need a series with the 'sexy' storylines to enjoy it -- because even the sexy series in the past has resulted in bad baseball or a 4-game sweep...

whoever is in it, i'm hoping for a good, tight, series that goes the distance

Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 09:22 AM by deadparrot
The Rays have a great cellar-to-championship story, and the Phillies haven't been to the WS since the early 1990s. Some of us do, in fact, enjoy the teams whose highlights roll during the last twenty minutes of Baseball Tonight.

23. Dude, the World Series is not about ratings and money and market share.
It's about baseball and apple pie and kicking foreigners' asses! People will tune in just to watch the art, the majesty, of the sport, dontcha know? WHo cares if the teams are relatively unknown and have small audience bases and are not the top merchandising draws in the sport. People will still watch two teams they know nothing about and care less about just because it's baseball and the World Series and shit.

And anyway, Fox doesn't care about the money.

And, while I have your attention, look what I have for sale.

Perhaps you missed the All-Star game when it suddenly got very good when all the huge names were taken out in favor of the "small market" players.

30. No. Speaking as a diehard Bosox fan, I think it would be good.
The Rays are exciting to watch. They play good, solid ball. They don't rely on one killer bat or one ace arm like some of the other epic teams.

Although Tampa Bay, I have learned from the last two games, has a supercharged offense!

OK, maybe it won't be boring.
