Any lawyers in the house? I need some help.
I have to write a character letter for a dear friend, and I'm at a loss as to what I should say.

3. For the bar exam?
If so just state how long you have known them and your opinion on their character. No real details needed.

My friend threatened to put down that I had "outstanding" charachter. Not good or bad, just outstanding.

Also, type the letter and no swears!

11. Is it a reference for the bar?
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 04:34 PM by in search of sanity
My idea of the letter:

1. say how pleased you are to write a letter of reference for this person

2.identify how long you have known this person and in what capacity. (e.g. We became friends in college and have remained friends over the past 8 years.)

3. a couple of things that you personally know about the person that shows he's a great guy. (e.g. In college, he tutored other students in the dorm who had problems with Spanish; or, he contributed to the community by volunteering at the local animal shelter)

4. perhaps relate what he has said about the law, if it is favorable. (e.g. he led a great discussion among our friends regarding habeas corpus that really helped us understand current issues.)

5. Maybe end it by saying how admission of this person to the bar will be a great way to allow this person to contribute even more to the community.

6. Thank the bar and sign off Sincerely or another formal ending.

What do you think?

12. In addition to sanity's suggestions ...
In my opinion, the Bar is looking for honesty and trustworthiness. So if you can honestly say something in that area, please do.
