Ok, I can't think of the perfect word, need a DU-Thesaurus
Palin ______ obtains experience from the US commanders who are in charge of responding to potential violations of US air space? The missing word means obtaining it indirectly due proximity. It isn't a word I use much and it is on the tip of my tongue.

7. Vicariously is correct...
though depending on venue and whether I intended the sentence to be written or spoken...I might choose "Palin, through osmosis, obtains" for alliterative value. It's mildly zingy and it rolls well off the tongue.
