I make myself sick.........because i am racist.......i think.
I was just in a convenience store and there was a african american gentleman in line behind me and all i could think was i want to start chanting Obama, Obama, Obama and do high fives and stuff (yes i am that big of a dork). However it is racist for me to assume that the gentleman behind me was an Obama supporter. Sometimes things are so complicated.

3. THAT's what you were saying?
I thought you were muttering about "yo' mama." I thought I was going to have to mess you up.

5. Maybe, but in a good way.
:-) This election IS historic and huge for the African American community, IMHO. I saw a little girl in a restaurant recently, about the same age as Obama's girls and I wanted to pick her up and swing her in the air for the joy of it. And chant Obama, Obama. :-)
I resisted.

6. It's not racist really... It's just an assumption... Like I assume gay people I meet are democrats
I don't give a fuck if I offend some republican gay person, and I don't give a fuck if I offend a republican African American either... because I don't give a fuck if I offend ANY republican.

Relax... and chant Obama all you want.

8. I really don't understand how the Log Cabin Republicans can actually exist.
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 01:11 PM by madinmaryland
I know they do, but the repubs hate who the Log Cabin Republicans are.

I just don't get it.

9. It *almost* made sense when it was just about greed... but now wtf?
I understand assholes who are greedy. The "I've got mine" mentality leaves no room for caring about normal people who don't have their resources, who would care about a silly thing like civil equality so that they can protect their families. They must have enough money to make up for the imbalance, and probably calculate the amount it would take in lost tax breaks to break even, or they don't give a shit about marriage.

And I understand people who don't know about politics getting snowed by republicans, but now? An educated person interested enough in politics to be part of a political group has no business supporting republicans. None. Unless they are so ultra-wealthy that greed is still a factor. I KNOW that these guys aren't all that wealthy. I just don't get it either.

11. Most Obama supporters are white
simply because most Americans are white.

In fact, outside Wasilla, Alaska and environs, most white Americans are probably Obama supporters.

Even if it's mostly accurate it's probably not fair... At least you thought about it.

14. I let my Obama buttons, t-shirts and bumper stickers do the talking for me.

A lot of caucasian people approach me to enthusiastically chime in with their support. The black people so far will just catch my eye and we share a smile. That's good enough for me. :)

there will be big smiles, and people who don't know each other, black and white, will be smiling and holding on to each other and crying for joy. :grouphug:

18. Everyone in the US is racist to some degree, it's
part of our culture.

FWIW, I believe everyone on earth is prejudiced more or less. If you are really concerned about it, then you are doing something right.

19. If you are like me
you are sandbagging on yourself so someone will come along to reassure you, you are not a racist. I'd say no one can help but have a list of stereotypes about characteristics belonging to ethnic groups, how can one not? Humans categorize everything. I like the feeling of belonging and finding things to have in common with people. I think Obama is nice common ground. Back in the day when I was a teenager, counterculture was very cool. Black Power was right up there with war protesters and hippies for being something I thought was cool. In fact, I think the reason everybody white looked like a poodles in the 80's, we were all getting perms, to emulate the big fluffy afros. Hell, I don't know what I'm getting into here, I really don't know anything.
