"In line" or "on line?"
I'm doing an informal poll for some teachers. What phrase do you use when you're in that queue at the movie theater? "In line" or "on line?" Where did you grow up and where do you live now?

New Yorkers call it "on line," and that seems so wrong to me.

8. In line - if someone actually drew a line and caused one to stand on it
That would be different.

11. IN line, unless you're riding piggyback on someone else.
New Yorkers are simply wrong on this vital matter.
