Applegate calls double mastectomy a 'tough' choice
I personally think Christina is a great actress and someone who started acting when she was young but didn't turn into some crazed psycho media whore. I have a feeling we'll see alot of Christina out there fighting to help cure Breast Cancer - seems it's in her family.

NEW YORK (AP) — Actress Christina Applegate is taking the long view of her battle with breast cancer — the really long view.
Speaking on ABC News' Good Morning America in her first interview since announcing her diagnosis earlier this month, the Samantha Who? star said she had a double mastectomy three weeks ago. She'll undergo reconstructive surgery over the next eight months.

"I'm going to have cute boobs 'til I'm 90, so there's that," she joked in the interview, which aired Tuesday. "I'll have the best boobs in the nursing home. I'll be the envy of all the ladies around the bridge table."

The 36-year-old actress elected to remove both breasts even though the disease was contained in one breast. She said she is now cancer-free.

Applegate called the operation a logical decision. Her mother battled breast cancer, and she tested positive for the BRCA1 gene mutation linked to breast and ovarian cancer.

1. Yeah, that has to have been a tough choice,
even if it is the logical option.

She's always impressed me with her conduct and her choices in roles. Especially in comparison to Britney and Lohan.

5. One of the news stations did a story about women optiong for a Double Mascetomy.
Women who came from a family who had a history of breast cancer felt it was easier to just get rid of them early instead of dealing with potential of breast cancer. It was deemed a risky choice but personally I think it makes alot of sense (Breast cancer does not run in my family, unfortunately colon cancer has).

Christina could have just had one removed and been fine but she was smart to just get rid of both of them and start fresh.

I didn't know she had a double mastectomy. I hope she does become a full-time breast cancer advocate. It can only help others who are in her same situation. I wish her, and the others battling this disease, all the best of luck.

I really like her, and how she has handled her career post Married With Children. She seems like a classy lady.

6. I think she has been involved in the past because her mother had breast cancer
which is the reason she removed both instead of just the one that had the cancer.

8. My sister did a double mastectomy
When she was dianosed in 1997. One one breast was involved, but she elected to have both removed. She had reconstructive surgery and she looks fabulous. And being able to go braless at 60 is a plus! :D

She's been cancer free since then. *knock wood*

9. Sexist pig reply- What a loss to mankind!
Yes, I know it's not a laughing matter, but if SHE can joke about it in front of the world so can I! :headbang:

I wish her a long life and good health from here forward.

11. Not looking for a stupid pun, i swear, but this takes OVARIES OF BRASS.
Good for you Ms Applegate - more power to you, fates be good to you, all good vibes and karma.

I am more and more compelled to get involved, although i've never been touched by breast cancer, no one in my family, to my knowledge, has ever had it. i had a scare a couple of years ago; Mrs. V. had a scare several years ago, but that's the closest we've gotten.

I'm to the point where I finally realize it's going to take more involvement than running Denim Day (which I can't do on this job) and sporting the color pink now and then.

13. When I worked in a cancer resource room
I remember this really old couple... and the husband said, "oh, I don't care about the breasts. I just don't want to lose my sweetie. We lost the breasts a long time ago and I don't even miss 'em. But I can't live without my sweetie." Now, that's perspective.

14. I have a ton of respect for her
I never knew much about her or even cared but she has really shown her strength through some serious hardships. I don't know if I could have handled her year as well as she has.
It's just wonderful to see a strong woman who retains her sense of humor through the darkest moments.
