At what age would you like to retire?

I would like the idea of never going to work again,but I have no idea what I would do with all that time on my hands. 55 years old sounds good,but what if I live to 102 like my grama?

3. Don't frame retirement in terms of doing nothing....

rather, its time for a new start, new direction, new opportunities. Work and activity may well be a part of that. I'm 56 and will retire at 62 to full time farming, with my retirement income underwriting the truck farm of my dreams. For me, its a chance to not work for the man or to no longer be the man, but to be my own person for the first time.

I've got to make one of those. I used to draw and paint,before the weight of the world crushed all my hopes and dreams. Mmaybe I could take up the brush and pencil again.

6. This is actually my plan B...

I used to be a small time beekeeper, a hobbyist with only 3 hives, but planned on retiring and having 40 hives. Then, after 10 years of bees, I developed an allergy to bee stings. Not to be dramatic, but if you want quick attention in an ER go in and say "I'm having an allergic reaction to a bee sting." So I had to change. It's an opportunity, not a burden. But, please, please, prepare yourself financially to be able to enjoy it.

"Most people don't plan to fail,they fail to plan." As the saying goes. I have a nest egg,and some property on the lake that is skyrocketing in value,so it ain't money. It's what the hell do I do to fill my days kinda planning I need.

7. Retire? What is this "retire" of which you speak?

I'll be doing what I do until I drop dead in my office chair. When it gets to the point where I don't need to do it for money anymore, I'll keep doing the same things, but instead of the 20% of my time that I devote to working pro bono for nonprofits and charities, I'll give them 100% of my time.

16. I'm semi-retired now at 47.

I haven't worked in about 10 years. Not sure if I'll go back so that's why I say I'm semi-retired. I just may find the right job and not be able to resist. I'm fortunate that my husband has always earned a very good salary and we've been able to save a lot of money.
I find so much to do, around the house and outside. So many groups need volunteer help that you'll never be bored.
