If you have tinnitus, yell REAL LOUD.
I HATE this. I've been protective of my hearing my entire life, but now every once in a while the ringing starts, and gets louder and louder and LOUDER...

Damned aspirin-based medicines...

9. Cicadas are a pox.
I was a grass cutter during one of the great cicada uprisings in Nashville. We quickly discovered they are attracted to the sound of small engines, and especially to the whirring sound of weed eaters.

We were all in torment until they went away- although they're harmless their nasty little hooks can penetrate ANYTHING, even double layered clothing.

I'd quite forgotten about that summer, thank you very much...

12. 1984? The year my daughter was born, visited friends in Nashville during
a cicada uprising. Man that was LOUD!!! I had lived in Nashville from 1971 - 1983 and never experienced them, this was a strange event indeed.

If you hit the things they would sort of whine like a miniature jet engine. Very strange

It's not always cicadas for me though. Sometimes it's a high pitched hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

but right now I have cicadas.

22. I actually don't mind it.
I like the sound of cicadas, and it's never loud enough to be even annoying... I only hear it when it's quiet.

I get ringing sometimes too... but I figure most everybody has that by now.

23. I'm used to the cicada sound. You're right, it's never loud.
The high steady pitch of the other one can drive me nuts sometimes. It varies in volume for me and luckily the louder sound doesn't last long..so far.

21. That's what mine sounds like sometimes, too. Other times it's a high
pitched whine which changes volume and pitch from time to time. I usually don't notice it much anymore unless it changes, but it's always there in the background.

11. Prilosec caused tinnitus for me.
Started out like that electric tone you hear in hearing tests. That was on day five or six. By the end of the suggested two weeks of taking the drug it was a full blown screech pretty much ALL the time.

Called the doc and asked about it. I was told it was not anything they thought was connected. I stopped taking it and started taking Pepcid AC and the tinnitus was gone in a week.

I dunno how anybody lives with that endless noise 24/7 for very long. I don't think I could stay sane.

13. TMJ can also cause it, which I did not know.
Aspirin based meds are definitely a culprit and I think ibuprofen must also contribute

16. My dear Prisoner_Number_Six!
Well, I've had it for many years now...

Sadly (or not) I've become used to it...

My NSAIDS are certainly the culprits here...

Sometimes I don't hear it at all...

I'm sorry it bugs you that much, sweetie...

Right now, it is really whistling. I've managed to get used to it.

24. I'm with you
But in my case, I think it was too many concerts (garage bands included). My ears don't ring per se, it's more a mechanical noise like the refrigerator makes :-(.
