Shit. Literally.
$2800 down the crapper. I was hoping it would cost $800 max to unclog the main. Top it off with a recently replaced car engine and all kinds of other stuff hitting the fan, and life just $uck$ right now. :(

Could sure use some good vibes... :hi:

3. We have an old house...
They had to cut the main stack and install a clean out connection so they could snake out the main sewer.

We've got to have a lot more work done, but we're not going to be able to afford it all at once.

5. I'm so sorry!
I remember having to replace the sump pump and then turning around and having to replace the well pump (all in a matter of weeks all in the middle of winter). After that I considered swearing off drinking water & :hurts: but I figured that was going a little to far.

8. One good thing...
While we were waiting to get a little more cash to take care of the sewer, necssity forced us to be more frugal with our water...like turning off the spigot in mid-shower. Maybe we don't have to be quite as stingy as before; but I plan to keep conserving as much as possible to keep the bills down a bit.

2. I feel ya...
We got hit with a $1500.00 plumbing bill back in April, followed closely by a minor surgery for me and a series of expensive medical tests for my wife...

When it rains... and all that.

Good vibes right here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZt7VySrAEE

Yeah, it's maddening what it costs to see these days. Worst thing is, when you get the bill, you kind of wish you couldn't see it!

11. Bifocals....
I made it 50 before I needed them, so I guess I shouldn't complain. My FAA doc said I wouldn't pass my next flight physical without them.

I don't think they make a frame that looks good on my - guess I'll settle for looking uncooler than I did before!

Hope your situation rights itself in short order!

13. Eeekk..that's terrible.
$2800 to put in a clean out and do the unclogging? Holy Cow! :wow: Can I ask where they put in the cleanout? Was this a basement/crawlspace or did they have to dig?

Sending you good thoughts and vibes that things will get better.

14. It was in the basement...
I think it's because they had to cut into the main sewer stack, which came with the house back in 1917...cast iron or somesuch. We have a lot of galvanized iron pipe which we're going to have to get replaced. :-(

22. Same here. We have some old cast iron sewer pipe too.
Almost all our sewer & drain pipe has been switched to plastic here but the vent stack itself and it needs replacing.

I love old houses but sometimes they can cost an arm and a leg.

15. Shit indeed!
did they replace the pipe? That's about what it cost me in my previous house to replace the line from my house to the street and it was a Long run. That was about 3 years ago.

I feel your pain though on unexpected costs, I just moved into a new place, somehow (I guess we didn't push aside the shower curtain far enough) we missed the fact that the paint is completely coming off the claw foot tub during the inspection. Now the estimate I got today to resurface it was $600 - like buying new but then a new one would also include the cost of getting it up here and installed.

But something tells me it's the execs of the PVC pipe manufacturers who make all the real money.
