When you taught your kids names of specific body parts.....

did you have cute little names for the "privates" ? Or did you teach them the correct names from the beginning? I ask, because, well, this is my first kid, and we're potty training, and I am unsure of what I want to do.

4. We told our kids about the words vagina and penis, but we use pee-pee for everyday conversation.

6. see, around here, the vagina is regularly refered to as

"the hoo-hoo", but, I want her to know the real terminology, just at 20 mos, she can't really say vagina.

Vulva is the correct term.

We used "crotch" or colloquially, "crotchy-girl".

for some reason, "unit" always got used for the male genitalia. That must say something really creepy about my psyche or something.

It was problematic at times. The proper names just sounded wrong to me in a kid's voice. They all knew the proper names though.

We haven't given them cutesy names for their elbows, thumbs, or ankles, either.

Though I don't condemn anyone who refers to the children's genitals by code-words, I don't understand it, either. It suggests to me that these body parts are dirty or shameful and not to be mentioned.

12. I told them the real names and then told them the "slang" terms.

They grew up using the correct terminology. :D

Funny, the other day, son #2, who's now age 10, said to his dad out of the blue, "Well Dad, you hit the right egg."
