5. It's probably related to the whole damsel in distress thing too.
Just taking it to another level or something.

Just once I wanna see it the other way around. But other than a few episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer I can't think of any instances where the boyfriend gets kidnapped and the girl kicks everyone's ass to get him back in one piece. :P

7. The rules are different for kids.

It's cute when the kid is spunky and adventurous. But heaven forbid we let our women try and do that sort of thing. :\

Back when I was working on a set of RPGs, I made one set in a comic book style heroes and villains universe... first superhero team I came up with had 5 people in it, and I planned for all of them to end up with someone else. For the fifth wheel character I brought in someone who had similar powers to his later on. Then I had the two who worked best together and were about even as far as power goes get together. Then I was going to have the last two end up together... his powers are purely mental. No physical aspect whatsoever. Her powers are almost entirely physical. So whenever there's trouble, she's the one to go save his hide. :P Whereas if they need a computer system hacked... yeah, that's what he does.

8. I agree with your point entirely...
I loved the TV series "Charmed" because the women in the show almost always saved the butts of the men.

10. Yeah, that was a good portion of the appeal of Buffy too.
She was the strongest character on the show. She ended up saving all of the guys in her life numerous times over. :P
