Seeking help from Microwave oven guru....
I pressed what I thought was the start button, three times in a row

and now it won't work at all. It says C.H.I.L.D where it should have the time.

I'm assuming I need to reset it by unplugging it? Is that right?

I can't reach the plug though. :grr:

I'll have my son move the cabinet when he gets back.

Just wondering if that's how I reset it or what?

1. If you Google the make and model of the microwave
Edited on Sat Jul-19-08 05:16 PM by VenusRising
you might find the appliance manual online.

I hope you get your microwave back soon. :hi:

5. It's pregnant. Now it has some decisions to make.
That's a lot of pressure. No wonder it doesn't feel like working.

:P

Pissing me off actually, as I didn't want to turn on the electric oven.

It's to hot to do that. Looks like it's a cold sandwich for dinner. :(

14. Child Lock, maybe.
Some microwaves have them, and as you can see, there ARE kids who play with microwaves.

:eyes:

You can try unplugging it, but I dunno if it will work. It should. I hope...

:scared:

17. I wasn't playing with it... LMAO! It didn't start when I hit start,
so I hit it again but Nada and then missed what I thought was the 'clear button' and hit start a 3rd time by accident. It has a black face, was dark in the kitchen and I wear bifocals. Mistakes happen!! Could be a child lock. Didn't think of that. Thanks!

15. I'm betting you've
engaged the child lock. Drats...now you can't nuke bubble wrap.

If you can't find the manual, I'd google the make and model to find out how to disengage it. If it's any kind of child lock at all, unplugging it won't help. If it does, then it's a pretty crappy safeguard.

18. It's a Panasonic 1300 W --- I think. At least 8 yrs old.
I'm sure we'll figure it out, sooner or later.

I hope sooner, because I use it all the time.

I'll search for the manual in the AM.

Thanks. :hi:

16. On mine, you hold the Start button down for 3-5 seconds, both to lock
and unlock it. Try holding various keys (Start, Stop, Clear, etc) for a few seconds each...

20. It's a child lock
and, no, not to lock them in. it's to keep them from (ab)using it.

Go to the manufacturer's website, find the section for support/manuals, and read how to unlock it.

Edited on Sat Jul-19-08 09:47 PM by Breeze54
I was showing him the problem and trying to hold the key down for a few seconds,
like someone suggested above and he said, "Get out of the way." and he hit start
twice, then clear/reset and wallah!! I have time and a working microwave again!! :D

What a guy, sunburn and all! :P
