my computer is acting funky. i'm working in safe mode because
my PC keeps freezing up. done a system restore. boots up, but at some random point after, it will freeze. have to unplug to shut down. recently installed 2gig and a video card.

wtf is wrong now? :grr: actually, after 4 years, this is first blip. been a reliable box.

1. Remove the memory & see if it continues to freeze.
I am betting the memory is either in the wrong slots or is not compatible with the existing memory. Also, do you have all the latest drivers for the new video card? Did you remove the drivers from the old video card?

3. What video card did you install?
I am thinking insufficient power supply now.

5. Sometimes my computer tells me I'm low on Virtual Memory
Then, three or four hours later, everything is fine and dandy again. I'm wondering if that could be insufficient power supply, too.

13. Do you have a Comp Usa store in your area?
I know that Tiger direct bought them out and are operating three or four retail outlets. I would LOVE to have a tigerdirect owned CompUsa near me. I bet their selection is great!

14. yep.
it's mostly about computers and accesories, cameras, phones, and those big honking TVs. they don't even bother with PC games and controllers anymore.

15. Man, that is an incredible resource to have nearby!
I am jealous. The old compusa used to have a fair selection of components so if you had a failure you could get a replacement quickly. Now I am forced to shop exclusively online for stuff.

10. mine was acting strange lately too
and this morning AVG picked up a bug for the first time in months. Yesterday my mouse was acting up, but it was probably jut dirty. Never got around to cleaning it, things just started working on their own. Had a couple blips with the tabs this mornign again but it is gone now. I bet there is cat hair in the wheel.

16. Buy a Mac
(I just wanted to beat the smug Apple owners to the punch.)

Last Tuesday's Windows update (Black Tuesday) knocked me (and several hundred thousand other users) off the internets.

But for me, system restore was able to get it back.
