Check out the lame painting I did this morning...

This morning I went to Griffith Park to do my homework assignment for a landscape painting class that I'm taking. In this painting we are limited to using Titanium White, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Sienna and Yellow Ochre. That's the Griffin Park Observatory in the distance.

Tomorrow's location is the Mission San Gabriel, San Gabriel, CA. http://www.sangabrielmission.org

1. I like it
It looks vaguely Mediterranean - like something you'd see in Greece or Israel.

2. It's not lame!
:) I know we artists can be our own worst critics.

3. It's actually quite delightful
You mix your colors well. And it isn't the subject that matters, it's the painting itself. The use of color, brush stroke, values, etc.

You are talented. No question about it.

I think that's an awesome example of Impressionism. Don't sell yourself short. I'd hang it in my living room. :hi:

17. Not lame!
I like it. I'd like even more to see a painting of a subject you chose for yourself. You have an interesting and pleasing style - I'd like to see where you can go with it.
BTW most artists and writers think most of what we do is lame -we don't make good self-critics.

18. That's excellent!
Like I've said before, any painting that makes you want to look at it for a while is a good painting. I like the energy in the brushtrokes of the hillside and the economy of the architectural depiction. It's a wonderful painting that just gets better the longer you look at it.

You would be kicked out of the MOBA, The Museum Of Bad Art for excessive display of talent.

Some of the contrasts could have more punch. And since it was a class, there's always a lot of limitations. So you did the best you could.

31. As an art teacher, and someone who has been to that spot ..
I think it is a good painting. I like the way you paint. I like the brushwork of the brush, pun intended, and the strong contrast with the observatory building itself. I've been up there a few times.

Acrylics or oils?

I spent quite a few Saturdays there

And I like the painting - especially given the restrictions. Nice work!
