My stepson's girlfriend's truck was stolen. A disabled veteran helped the police get it back.
Somebody stole her truck from the parking lot of the local mall while they were shopping. I picked them up after they filed a police report, and brought them home. 2:30 this morning, we got a phone call from his girlfriend saying they found the truck in an apartment complex in Auburn, about eight miles away. A disabled vet living there saw some suspicious behavior in the parking area of the complex; some guys he'd never seen before with a truck he'd never seen before. They were siphoning the gas out of the tank, looking around and stage whispering to each other. He called the police, but the thieves scooted off before they arrived. She got her truck back with only minor damage.

Like to talk to that guy and buy him a beer. :-)

2. I had a lover who was a disabled vet
Wanna know how clueless I am? It took me forever to think "Oh yeah, he's in a wheelchair". It just didn't matter.

Good people.

4. A beer, hell. A keg, some short ribs and watermelons.
That's worth a picnic and a ball game.

6. Off topic again. How's your dad doing, Aristus?
We gotta take care of our vets.

7. He's doing fairly well. He's been pronounced cancer-free by his doctors.
But his weight is way down. He looks shrunken and reduced; more so than ever in his life. He has always been muscular and robust, even as he entered his sixties. He's also having intensely painful abdominal cramps. And his ability to hold down solid food is still dodgy.

Still, he was able to join me and my brother at the Mariners game last Saturday where the M's stomped Detroit 5-0. That was a good day for all of us. He had a Polish dog and a beer and kept them both down. I was happy to see that. I'll tell him you asked after him; that was very kind, sarge. :-)

Here's a pic taken at the game:

And here's an old portrait of him from about 1970:

8. Well, give him a
 and :patriot: for me. Anyone who took care of battle causalities is a hero in my book.

9. I will. Thank you so much, sarge. If you like, here's a pic of him in his rig as an
air ambulance officer. It was taken just after three solid weeks of mass-casualty situations during the Tet Offensive (which explains his expression) :

10. I've seen that expression before, Aristus.
One combat vet said about it, "I looked into the Pit. It looked back and never blinked."

Give your dad an especially warm and loving hug for me.
