29. no, I've never seen him
That's just where it said that youtube video was shot of his performance. I've played on that same stage a few times, yonks ago, when I was in a band in Chicago. It would be neat to see him though - my band did a similar, if less cheeky, sort of thing: www.bunnyhug.com if you're interested.

he was the opening act for the Eurythmics. He was awesome, just him surrounded by synthesizers, and Annie Lennox--oh, man. One of my best concert memories.

11. Destination by the Church.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9BTGPrj-mQ

Our instruments have no way of measuring this feeling
Can never cut below the floor, or penetrate the ceiling.
In the space between our houses, some bones have been discovered,
But our procession lurches on, as if we had recovered.

Draconian winter unforetold.
One solar day, suddenly youre old.
Your little envelope just makes me cold,
Makes destination start to unfold.

Our documents are useless, or forged beyond believing.
Page forty-seven is unsigned, I need it by this evening.
In the space between our cities, a storm is slowly forming.
Something eating up our days, I feel it every morning.
Destination, destination.

Its not a religion, its just a technique.
Its just a way of making you speak.
Distance and speed have left us too weak,
And destination looks kind of bleak.

Our elements are burned out, our beasts have been mistreated.
I tell you its the only way well get this road completed.
In the space between our bodies, the air has grown small fingers.
Just one caress, youre powerless, like all those clapped-out swingers.
Destination, destination.

159. I love it!
It's amazing to me how narrow my musical tastes were back then. Well, I was only 15 in 1980, just getting into bands like Yes and Floyd and Rush. A lot of the music on this thread I generally hated back then (I wasn't sure if I liked or hated Ultravox's Vienna), but I'm finally 'over' classic rock and into a dozen other genres now. And all this old stuff seems like pure gold to me.

168. We're about the same age, Hardhead
In '80, when I was 14, I got supremely bored with the crap music in the top 40. I became a latter-day retro Beatles fan (and that's persisted to this day), but I was still hungry for something new. I tweaked to New Age music and the '80s British Invasion (perfect for me, the diehard anglophile) around '82 and lived and breathed MTV in the hopes of seeing some of that excellent new music, even if I had to wait till the wee hours of the morning to get it.

"I said WOT?" Earworm-y, no? :hi:

144. I had the album Nuovo Mondo, why I don't know.
One day I took a big stack of records to sell at Plan 9 Records in Richmond Va and that was the only one they wouldn't give me any money for. I told the clerk they could have it so I wouldn't have to carry it back home and he turned me down so I dumped it in the trash on the way out. Couldn't even give the thing away.

Page in his 3-D laser pyramid playing that great big double-necked guitar... Tony Levin, the crooning and wailing of Paul Rodgers....

150. Metro
was a band that recorded an album in 1979 called "criminal world". Last year of HS at the time -- Go Big Red-- and attending a single sex independent school near Princeton. Heard the title cut played late night on WMMR one saturday when I was nearly dead asleep and stoned. Bolted out of my bed and wrote down the name of the cut; took a bus into Princeton the next day and bought the album.

Cleaned pot on that jacket. Hid and later recovered some Pink Floyd "Wall" tour tickets in that jacket. Lost my cherry freshman year at university of delaware (thank you carmen) and that album was playing while I bid good bye my maidenhead. God DAMN that album was good.

David Bowie covered "criminal world" some years later.
