Yesterday morning, I received a moderator warning that a pornographic image that I posted here in the Lounge had been deleted. I was shocked and bewildered by this, because although I have certainly posted my share of things here that have pushed the envelope a little (stop laughing, DuStrange!), I certainly have never posted anything that I personally would consider X-rated. After doing a little research yesterday, I think I have figured out what happened.
In LynneSin's "Post an unconfirmed rumor" thread (
link), I started a rumor that turtlensue has a secret crush on Rick Astley. In that subthread, I attempted to post a picture of him. I had been previously warned of the dangers of posting pics hosted on unknown websites, because sometimes the image will look fine when you preview your message, but after you make your post the image appears as something different. However, in this case, the pic I wanted looked fine in the preview
and after I posted it. I can only imagine what the pic looked like to the rest of you, but to me, it just looked like a pic of Rick Astley.
Based on the subsequent reaction from a couple of you, and based on the private conversation I had with siligut yesterday, it is clear to me now that this was the offending picture. I know that lost-in-nj, siligut, and at least one Lounge moderator saw the picture. I offer my sincere apologies to all of you and to anyone else that may have seen this picture. Please know that this was not an intentional action on my part and it was not my desire to post something of that nature here.
In closing, I offer all of you two lessons that this incident has taught me:
1. Before posting a pic on DU again, I will copy it to my Photobucket account first. That way, I can be sure of what I'm posting.
2. Despite peaking in popularity almost 20 years ago, Rick Astley is still trying to hurt innocent people with his malevolence. Do you think it was a
coincidence that Rickrolling became such an Internet phenomenon?
