Well, today I filled up the gas tank on my little truck, almost $50, and the tank was not empty.
There was a couple also paying gas and they payed almost $100 to fill up their big truck.

I am so glad I bought my little truck years ago.

Working from home I don't drive alot anymore, I am so glad for that.

I stopped at the store for a few things, and I noticed people are being really careful in what they are buying.

I wonder what price gas will be when everything stops because most people can't afford to go anywhere or do anything.

All the stories from the 1930's I grew up hearing seem to real now.

1. My mom grew up during the Depression
She says we're definitely in another one, no matter what words the MSM uses or avoids using.

Almost broke $60 last week to fill up my Jeep ($59.45). When I bought it, eight years ago, I could fill up for $20. Mr. MG got a raise a month ago, which will just cover the additional amount we're spending for gas. Running in place, that's all it is. What happens when we start to fall behind...well...that's something to think about.

2. I have been thinking alot about the effect of gas prices.
If the price of gas isn't brought under control soon many people won't be able to drive to work.

I know people who are now riding the bus, we do have a some what decent bus system in Houston.

From what I heard the park and ride buses are really full.

We are planting a very large garden this year, we have the space.

I don't know anyone who is planning a vacation.

During the last Depression my neighborhood was at the edge of the city so there was lots of open space for gardens, chickens, and even space for a family to have cow.

We have two bayous near us where people would fish, people could make it.

Everything is different now.

3. I wish we had decent public transportation
We live in a small town just over the county line (the other county has the city and all the 'burbs) and there's no visible sign of busage ANYwhere. Not even a park and ride, unless we drove a silly number of miles in a lateral direction, which is pointless.

I'm planting my first garden this year--small, but then again I'm the only one who eats a lot of veggies in the family (although MG Jr. is a cucumber addict). Well, I will, as soon as the temps get above 50 degrees (cold snap all week here). I've grown herbs for years, so I just need to expand that garden a bit so I don't drop $3 for a bunch of basil that I end up using once.

Funny about neighborhoods--the house my mom's family lived in during the Depression was also on the "outskirts"--yet they could walk to the streetcar line which took them pretty much anywhere they needed to go--and they had chickens and a big garden, and kept a lamb to fatten up before Easter (to this day my mom can't eat lamb). Now it's been so engulfed by the city that it's considered inner city (and quite a dangerous place to live).
