Anyone Else Have A Google Spy Film Their House, Street, Neighborhood?
google maps. type in your address. see if you can click for a "street view"

the ariel view of our house has been updated

now we have a street view from october

all the neighbor's houses (and ours)

you can even move the mouse so you can see part of the car that had the camera on top of it. they had a sign in the window that said "google"

i like to think of it as a google spy.

i wonder...how does one get a job doing that?

10. i guess she felt/feels her privacy is violated?
i'm not sure. (it didn't bother me too much)

maybe she thinks if our house is going to go on the internet she'll be the one to put it there--not google.

2. My dear orleans!
Not for my street, not yet...

Some of the major thoroughfares have had it done, though...

I wish they would do us!

I'd love to show all of you my street!

And I'd love to see the streets of my DU pals too...

:hi:

6. Google Street View
Hasn't done my street yet, but it has done the road next to which stands a bar that my spouse and I frequent.

In fact, in the street view photo on Google, our car is the only car in the bar parking lot!

So, in the Chicago area, I'd say the photos were done sometime last year.

9. Mine was taken last fall
I can tell because I got a new car in early fall and it's parked in my driveway in the picture and there are leaves on the ground.

11. Our neighborhood is there.
It was taken in a time of optimism before all the foreclosures started. Now our neighborhood is littered with empty houses, dusty sad looking real estate signs, and dead and dying landscaping.

On our street at least, those of us who remain kick in to water and mow because the banks surely don't.

I wonder what comes next, squatters?

Oh well, I've heard Modesto is worse, but I haven't been out there to see for myself, the price of gasoline and all...

12. Nope, our town is too small for them to care
But Mr. MG googled the house he lived in when he was a teenager (in Wisconsin) and I looked up my brother's house in Riverside, CA, as well as the two apartments I lived on when I was in grad school in Boston.

I find it kind of creepy, to be honest. And yet I cannot look away...

It kinda creeped me out to see my car there, but I also enjoyed seeing the house where I grew up. :-)

16. Looks like late summer/early fall for my house
Last we looked, the view of the pool showed it looking nice and blue (no skinny dippers in it, though). The update shows it murky black and green, which it is now. The trees are all grown in in the pic. Got that cleared out last Nov. Too funny!

My parent's house in Maine only showed something that looks like a big iceberg!

How did you get someone doing your place by car? They don't have satellites in your neck of the woods? Haha :)

So does that mean if you go sunbathing naked in your backyard, someone 10,000 miles away might see you?

19. OMG! My Step kid was photographed getting into his car by google-map
When I typed in his address it took me there. Next zoomed in all the way, then hit street view and viola, there he was getting into his car. Worse, when zoomed all the way in and panned just right I could EASILY read his license plate number and almost read the words on the frame which held his license plate!

I called him just now and he was utterly blown away when he went and looked. At first he thought it was cool:"Hey I'm famous!!!", but on second thought he has mixed feelings. He was on his way to school and recognized one of the books sticking out of his book bag...this told him which three month window the photo was taken on! (He's in his third year of college).

I am utterly floored by this. Taking 'Big Brotherism' to the next insane level, how soon do ya suppose before we see live camera access replacing those street-level photos? Stalkers of America, your fondest wishes may soon be realized!!!

btw: My step kid REFUSED to let me bring that screen-shot here to the DU. I DID want to show it off but it contained his home address, his car's license plate number and him getting into his car so he felt that would be far too much info...plus he IS a bit of a freeper.

24. I swear it is true!
I could even almost read the words on the license plate holder and from a different angle we could almost read the label on his shoes as well. My step kid is in Palo Alto, he says that Google Map is run out of a business quite close to Palo Alto so he is not surprised that the "street level" function was up and running for his neighborhood.

What IS surprising is the function itself! one could select an address, then zoom down to street level and take a virtual walk down the street through the neighborhood and beyond. One can pause at any point and do a 360 look-around with a zoom function usable for any desired inspections. Without question this is a form of 'Big Brother is Watching' and a tool which will be used by law enforcement.

20. Aerial, sure. Not street view, though.
The picture is also probably 5 years old, at least, judging by the cars in the driveway and various paraphernalia around the yard.

Honestly, it will be a while before any "street view" gets to the outer suburbs and rural areas of New England. :D

22. never mind google...go to yellowpages.com > directions > birds eye view
better camera resolution I enjoyed looking at Paris and Rome and zooming all around. Note all the solar panels on almost all of the roofs, and the great architecture in the apartment buildings...layered patios taking advantage of the sun direction. Few utility wires etc. This type of planning is what we need in America to retrofit old neighborhoods and get off dependence on oil.

Looks like it was taken early in the morning on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday because the newspaper was in the driveway.

26. Did you try the virtual walk?
Notice when you pan to street view, one is able to click on the arrows and head down the street. You could if you wanted take a virtual tour around your block pausing for a 360 view anywhere along that walk. I just took a virtual street level drive across the Golden Gate Bridge! I then got off the freeway and went on a virtual tour of a nearby neighborhood. In the neighborhood, some license plates are EASILY readable, esp. when one zooms in on them. Of course I am appalled by this use of technology but it IS fascinating.
