Did anyone watch the VH1 documentary on the sexual revolution tonight?
It was the first episode tonight and I think they are re-playing it at 12 or 1am...I recommend it, it's pretty good. Parts 2,3 & 4 will air the next 3 nights at 10pm.

I did find it pretty funny that a documentary about the emergence of sexual freedom in American culture airing at 10pm on a cable station still had to blur out any boobies or bare butts that appeared on the screen. I guess we are not as sexually free as we might think...

2. It was pretty tame stuff too...
a few pics of early Playboy pin-ups, some stock hippie/free-love frolicking film and a few cartoon representations of breasts.

It's not even a risque documentary, I was watching it with my dad for Christsakes!

3. Call Me Wesley and I were discussing this the other day
In most of Europe, bare breasts on teevee have been common for a long time. Indeed, this pic was capped from a MPFC episode first aired in 1969:

It was no MTV-type quick look, either; the scene lasted several seconds. (It's from the "Dull Life of a City Stockbroker" bit in episode 6.)

I don't think anyone died from seeing that, but in the Yew Ess of Aye, where "freedom" is all the rage, we still need HBO or Skinemax or something to see anything like it.

Dog repress Mer'ka. :patriot:

11. What I don't get...
male nipples and female nipples look exactly the same so the offensiveness should be the lumps of fatty tissue behind the nipples, yet cleavage is perfectly acceptable on TV...also "man boobs" are fine on TV as well. So why the uproar over female breasts?

and personally I think graphic depiction of "man boobs" on TV is more offensive than female breasts :P That's coming from a totally hetero woman, I don't think anyone likes to look at "man boobs"

14. My hypothesis:
Sexually repressive laws are made by repressed people who've been taught that anything relating to s*x is a one-way ticket to h**l. Since the sight or even the thought of br***ts or ni***es ar***es them and gives them an e****tion, these must be e*il and not fit for decent pe**le.

But, if those same repressed pe**le passed laws against male ni***es, that would be tantamount to admitting they're ar***ed by those, which would, in turn, be tantamount to admitting that they're g*y.

What's truly biz***e is that so many of these pe**le manage to get themselves el***ted to go****ment po***ions and others in which they can f**k everything u*.

15. I wish these people would just get raptured up already
so the rest of us can enjoy ourselves.

I saw an interesting Nova documentary about sex and evolution. They floated an interesting theory about why humans are more violent than sexual creatures. Essentially they based it on the reason why Bonobos are all about sex and chimps are all about fighting despite being almost exactly the same species.

The part of the world that chimps inhabited a loooooong time ago had both chimps and gorillas fighting for the same resources so since gorillas were bigger they got all the available food on the ground and chimps had to fight for scarce resources in the trees. Thus fracturing group cooperation and making a hostile species. Bonobos didn't have to compete with gorillas where they lived so had plenty of food, allowing them to have a strong sense of community and a lot of extra time for love. Apparently a similar thing happened to humans when we stopped swinging in the trees, we lived in an area with lots of other predators fighting for the same food so only the most aggressive early humans got to eat...the true lovers all died out.

But fundies wouldn't believe any of that because I made no mention of Adam and/or Eve in my story

16. Yeah, and Nova prolly said it happened more than 6,000 years ago
which we all know is impossible, because the Earth didn't exist then. :eyes:

I'm suddenly reminded of the WKRP episode in which Venus teaches the cleaning woman's son about the atom — in particular, this exchange:

Venus: "You wanna know what I think? I think there're only two things people really care about: one, conquest; two, survival."

Kid: "What about sex?"

Venus: "That's part of survival."

:D
