Question for someone in the construction business.

Why would a newly built two story brick house, (that's house as in residential), have foot and a half rods sticking out on the peaks of the roof top? I counted at least four of them, and I can't figure out what they would be for since we're losing analog around here. What kind of communication would need something of that nature? Or is it weather related?

have the rods? Does the house draw all the electrons and static to itself?

I heard on Savage Earth, the PBS series about weather related and other natural disasters, that Florida has more lightning strikes than any other state.
