Personal calls at work
This woman's husband calls her 10 times a day. It is a wonder he can wipe his own arse! It would not be such a big deal but the it is a phone order line. No wonder we get complaints the phone is offline constantly! My wife and I worked in the same department for 5 years before the boss found out we even knew each other. Talk about your home business at home for fuck sake!

5. Second day at my last job
I got a phone call from my mother informing me that my niece had been born and that she and her mother were doing fine after a high risk pregnancy with complications - a pregnancy that had followed a couple of miscarriages. Within 15 minutes I got a memo regarding personal phone calls. No amount of explanation was acceptable. And nobody shared my joy over this new life.

This was a money management position in a small financial firm and during my tenure there I observed that phone usage for the occasional personal call was not an issue. For some multiple perssonal calls throughout the day every day was not an issue. That call from my mother may have been the only personal call I received while working there. I told everyone not to call me there unless it was an emergency.

In retrospect I should have known then to bail. No doubt those were some of the ugliest, nastiest, backstabbingist folks I have ever worked with. Not a friendly face amongst the crowd. They had lots of company social events and everyone was expected to attend - but there were always some people that ***nobody*** would speak to there. The annual Christmas country club party usually featured a "weakest link" game where new hires were embarrased and ridiculed. It was a rite of initiation. And I heard lots of folks ridiculing clients for various reasons - everything from their faith to their occupation to their attire to their misfortune to their presumed sexual orientation. IT was not uncommon for this to occur in formal meetings where accounts ere being reviewed. There is ***NOTHING*** about that place and those co-workers I miss. Not even the paycheck. Fuck 'em.

6. some calls make sense
calling all the time to discuss trivial shit like what to eat, what to wear for a wedding that takes place in three months and when to cut the grass? No
